i know a guy who has an smleish looking carbine. He claims its original configuration but can't say the model. I've never seen it personally but he sent these pics. I know there exists types on enfield carbines but to be honest, if it's not a regular smle, no.4 or no.5 then it's outside my area of interest and expertise.

Any id help would be appreciated.

bubba!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, bubba definitely had his hands on this; the barrel is cut well back.

I'd suspect the barrel is worn out and someone kept cutting it back to find some groves.

personally I think the most valuable part on this one is the rear handguard. Doesn't look sanded, so easily worth $40 or $50 if indeed not tampered with.

looks like its 1927 dated Enfield (RSAF Enfield factory)

and someone has chopped it down

the front sight looks weird, perhaps off a No4

Oh its not original configuration.

I think I see 1917, hard to tell. Wouldn't 1927 be a Mk.III and not III*?

What an abomination, is the barrel still a legal length?

It’s a parts rifle at best in my opinion. Decent buttstock with swivel. rear hand guard, rear sight and protector and trigger components, plus bolt and a barrel band. To me it’s not worth anything over $125 as parts. But sporter prices seems to be nuts as of late.

I see a couple on Gun Post around 350.

as I recall some inter-war production switched back to the Mk III, although not the exact same standard as the pre-war Mk III I believe the inter-war Mk III did delete the mag cut off

I am away from my reference materials so I may not be correct

if i remember correctly a real no5 will have fluting on the barrell under the top handguard. remove the barrell band and take a look

ar15.com has a great visual reference comparing no4 to no5 that shows the fluting and other differences
