Just a heads up for anyone who hasn't been paying attention to a lot of threads elsewhere on CGN ....

If you are importing, there are things you can try to do to protect your valuable milsurps. Even if you're not, there's things you can do to help your friends on here who are.

I may have missed something lately but the last I heard, Stockwell Day did not intend to enact the legislation for gun marking.

If anyone has an "official source" or government press release supporting Stockwell Day's rhetoric, a link would be good.

As of today, any dealer or importer contacting the CFC or DOJ are being told that the legislation is taking effect Dec 1st as passed.

One area to watch is the DOJ legal page, where the current legislation information has a "caveat" at the top of each page as follows:

I suppose if they remove the "Not in force" phrase on Dec 1st, then that's the answer.

Okay, does this legislation affect our old military bolt action rifles here and now?
And will it affect our importing old wood stocks or original bolts etc. from outside Canada?

Well, if the conservatives don't do anything it will be customs that enforce the law and if it is the law they will enforce it.
It only covers firearms themselves so you will still get what parts you legaly get shipped north now. No more unmarked firearms or antique firearms that dont meet the UN standard of marking even thou you wont have to register those newly marked imported antiques.
If they are not marked Customs will simply not let them enter across the border.
Firearms already here in country do not need the new markings.

It only affect firearms as they are being imported anything already here does not need to be marked...

The Government of Canada announced the deferral of implementation of the Firearms Marking Regulationsto December 1, 2009.

The regulations include specific marking requirements for firearms manufactured in Canada or imported into Canada after the coming-into-force date.
