Gap between barrel and breach,on lock up ??

The gap does appear excessive in the photos. Stripping the slide, does the barrel engage the cuts any differently without the link and spring? Less gap or the same?
Have you changed or altered anything lately?
 
Take a headspace/depth measurement from the aft end of the Bbl hood to case mouth shoulder.

It's an un-ramped Bbl in which manufacturer's slide?
 
Yes it recently had work done.
Trigger,sights,hammer,beavertail.
And a new FLGR and spring.
He did say he was having trouble with mags not locking in.
Its RIA government.
The barrel dont move with the spring out.
But there is a bevel cut on the barrel, and a lot of grind Mark's around the link.
At this point,I'm not sure it's the original barrel..lol
My only concern is that it's safe to shoot.

I'm going to order a new Guide rod and maybe a new barrel.

It looks as if the barrel has been deemed and has taper ,starting at the hood and ending at the bottom.
The barrel measures 4.880,on the bottom (link side).
And 4.908 on the top ( next to the hood).

I dont know,maybe if the barrel was cut square, and maybe a little less ,that gap would be gone.
Maybe it would mess up the feeding though?

Just googled barrels and they do indeed have taper.
So scrap that idea.

1911 barrels headspace on the hood breech contact, the clearance is usually set at zero to 2 thou for a match gun. Test by putting the barrel into the slide and trying to move it back and forth, match grade zero movement, service allows up to seven thou. The barrel cut at the chamber sides are irrelevant most of the time the case head is well within capacity to hold it. Heavy loads will expand the case head and these should probably not be reloaded.

No movement when in the slide.
The gab just looked bigger than what I seen on other 1911.
 
Wow. That looks like quite the hack job on the guide rod and barrel lug the link pin attaches to. Why was that necessary? I question the link pin. Is it even the right size? What’s the condition of the slide and upper barrel lug engagements.
In your first OP photo, the barrel looks a bit skewed and not sitting right. Maybe it’s just the photo, or there’s issues with the slide and barrel lugs engagements after all that Dremmel hacking. That gun looks like a mess. Who’s responsible for this mess?
I keep telling people to put the Dremmel down and step away from the gun.

The barrel do sit on an angle,but I think that's normal??
It was supposed to be a FLGR, but if this two piece that's been welded..lol
I'm not even sure if this is the original barrel. Not sure if you can tell from the pic,but it's pretty scuffed up, and only has about 150 down the pipe.

For the $520 it cost me, I agree ,its a mess.
But it is what it is.

If you’re going to buy a new barrel, which I think you should at this point, and a new guide rod. You’ll need to figure out the correct size link pin needed. Provided the slide engagement lugs haven’t been cut up as well, you can save it. You might need a good pistol smith with an understanding of 1911s timing. Most everything in a 1911 needs to be fitted. R&R might work in some cases, but not to my experience for a perfect fit. Disappointing.

He should be a able to use the same bushing if he buys a Colt specked barrel. But yeah, maybe a new bushing might be in order, but may need to be fit as well. I like Ed Brown’s barrel bushings. They sell drop in bushing in different sizes specific to the barrel brands. May need minor fitting between slide and barrel. Tight is good to start with.
And get yourself a two piece full length guiderod with an extra power recoil spring. Maybe 16#. And a plug.
 
That barrel seems like looking down Mt. Vesuvius. Is that lead deposits, or corrosion? I’ve shot thousands of lead bullets before cleaning once in a blue moon, it sure doesn’t look like that. Maybe whoever ####ed up your barrel on the first go, replaced it with this one? Does he not at least own a boresnake? You need to get your $520. back. I’d question anything else he might have done. How’s the fit on the grip safety to the frame?
 
The grip safety is really wobbly/loose,but it works.
The slide stop is really easy to put back in,it takes no effort what so ever.
The slide hasn't been touched,other than milled for sights.
The gun was brand new,with 70 + rnds of factory ammo and 8 rnds of lead/ powder coated.
Then cleaned and sent away.
Also you need to be Hercules to rack the slide, lol

I dont know if I can dump another pile of money into this, it was only $700 for the gun.
I'm up to $1200+ now.

I was hoping I could just buy a barrel and new Rod and call it a day.

I wanted new adjustable sights and a new trigger.
The new FLGR,spring,grip safety and hammer were suggested by Rodger.
So I took his advice.
 
What a mess.

Who fleeced you for $500+ for that? I'd be demanding a refund at minimum. It looks like you spent money on making the gun worse, not better!
