Looking for people's opinions on zastava m70 rifles .I'm torn between a new zastava in 6.5x55 or look for a good used rifle in 6.5x55 . I have a carl g in 6.5x55 , my daughter claimed that one so dad needs another one.
Or get a tikka ?

Ho boy some one will say buy a Sauer 100.... one will say never get a zastava other will say zastava all the way and as for the husky well who knows lol.... sorry I’m no help!

Zastavas are great rifles. You might need some bedding and smoothing of the bolt and trigger. This will cost some money, say $250. Add that to the $685, and you will be close to $950-$1000. From the other side, if you buy a used rifle without closely inspecting it you do not know what you get. If you need to replace a barrel it will cost you around$500 depending on barrel and cost of gunsmith. I am working on an old 6.5x55 Carl Gustaf. It will end up costing me more than $1200.
Briefly, I do not think you will save money by buying old and used. Between the two choices you have, I would prefer a new Zastava. At this price though and with the extra cost (bedding, etc...) you can have a ready to shoot Tikka T3x giving immediately 0.5 moa. Your choice.

Well, I'm not much help here but I just finished my M38. New barrel from Tradex, installed by Gunco and a new stock from Brownells. I did the final fitting myself along with finishing it with truoil. The only down side to the whole thing is, it is a right handed action and I'm left handed.
Zastava make a pretty nice rifle.

I don't know what my total cost was, intentionally didn't keep receipts so upper management could beat me with them. I'm guessing I'm pretty close to your numbers. I just like the rifle.

I kinda asked the exact same question earlier this week and ended up buying a Sauer100 from Prophet river but in 9.3x62...:)

I had a super nice Howa 1500 dropped into a exceptional B&C stock, chambered in the 6.5 Swede. Not sure why I sold it. It was a smooth, refined shooter right out of the box, but I hated the Hogue "link collector" sticky stock that it came with. The B&C stock was amoung the nicest B&C I ever owned. Together, it made one sweet rifle, and didn't break the bank. My experience with Zastava was mostly positive, but in the end, there are none in my safe. Forget about the unknown history of the used rifles sold by Tradex. There are several much better new options available. Tikka, CZ, Sauer, and of course Howa, and there are others that I haven't owned but might also be better choices. BTW, 6.5x55 is amoung my top 5 favourite cartridges--a real over-achiever.

In another recent thread here,"New or used? 9.3x62" on page 12, post #120, dgradinaru helped me out and posted a photo of the;) only two in my safe with some results on paper using the 9.3x62.

I like the 6.5x55 and enjoyed shooting the carl g one I have , my daughter let's me shoot it once in a while . I've bought hernew rifles since , trying to bribe mi e back from her clutches with no luck . Just looking at personal experience.

“Hahaha I knew it lol.... even if the guy ask specifically between two rifle people have to suggest stuff that is not asked for lol!”

Ya, sorry. Guilty as charged. Lol. I guess i’m just a fan of having the best info available to support a decision. It is a pretty good option though, no?

Ho yeah for sure and so many more great options out there!! I mean tikka, sauer, sako, cz, Ruger, Carl G..... I mean so many good rifle companies! And these are all at the bottom of the quality chain.... then you have Steyr, Mauser, Rigby, Blazer, Strasser, Voere etc etc etc.... Cooper, Christensen, fierce and so on!! Sky is the limit!! Really depend what one wants, I know for me it needs to have walnut stock and open sights and that now a day is not a given since there is a lot of companies that don’t really offer it anymore!! I also like control round feed! Again not a given!!

Check trade ex out as they have a few 6.5x55 from husky, sako, tikka and zastava. Recent bought husky 1600 21.5 brl that looks good but haven’t been out with it yet
