I ordered a case of surplus 308 in the giant spam/click can you have to use the key spinner to open. I believe it may be chinese surplus (stamped 311 and 61}. Anyway after opening it I noticed the rounds have a black strip around the indent above the primer. Does anyone know what it indicates? I’m hoping it isn’t a indicator of corrosive primer.

I don’t think there’s ever been an indication on a munition to indicate it’s corrosive primmed. —Dieseldog!

it could be Czech or Yugo ammo . I had some 308 many years ago and it came in a off green bluish type box . corrosive . the black around the primer as someone else said is primer sealer . clean your rifle properly after shooting this stuff if it's deemed to be corrosive . post a photo please .

The dark line originally asked about is probably just lacquer in the extractor groove...no kind of marking or seal.

now why would you make a statement like that ? I can never recall seeing black lacquer around the extractor groove . just a black sealant around the primer . if I'm not mistaken there is some 308 with the same black sealer around the primer for sale in the factory ammo for sale section . its been for sale for sometime .

Uh...perhaps you've never seen a lacquered CWS before??? And my answer was based upon the OP's question: "around the indent above the primer".
He said "above", not "around". Perhaps you didn't see that...or read so well.
Now you know why I made such a statement.
