Looking for somebody on this board with a 6.5X55 Swede rifle and a 300WSM rifle to settle something for me.

Please don't use loaded ammo for this experiment.

Using full length sized 6.5X55 brass, will it fit in a 300WSM chamber and headspace well enough to make a dent in the primer.

Don't say its longer so it won't fit. I looked at the cartridge drawings and it looks like the long skinny one will fit inside the short fat one.

Again, use empty cases, not loaded ammo.

Thanks

A few years ago I was at the range. There was a guy on the left side of the firing line shooting slowly with I think a B78 in 300WSM. BANG! BANG! BANG! Bloop. Probably 3 guys converged on the shooter before he fired another shot because we wanted to make sure his bore was clear. That the bloop didn't mean he had bullet stuck in his barrel and the next one would blow up the gun. He was very defensive about his reloading, been at it for a long time etc. He had 2 types of ammo on the bench, I believe they were 6.5 Swede and 300WSM. The case that went bloop was a 6.5 Swede that was sort of fireformed to the 300WSM chamber. The .264 bullet rattled down the .308 bore. So, my memory of the cartridges involved is a little foggy and I would like a confirmation. Will it fit.

Well i just tried the full length sized 6.5x55 in the 300WSM and it just droped in like a charm, didn't pull the Triger dough but the bolt closed with no effort at all.

Thank you very much but the question is will it headspace well enough to strike the primer? I suppose it depends on firing pin protrusion and some other factors but is it possible?

Again, please do not use loaded ammo.

Just thought of something: I'm not familiar with a B78 extractor. It it possible the extractor held the case rim so the firing pin could strike the primer?
