With all of the new custom guns being chambered in 7mm Saum; is everyone aware of the amazing performance of the little short fat cartridge?

I own one right now - Rem M700 SS BDL bedded in a Grayboe Terrain stock ! I changed the trigger to a Rifle Basic and had the bolt body Fluted - I installed a Leupold rail and mounted a Bushnell Engage 4-16 x 44 in Vortex lapped Tactical rings - Shoots Good ! RJ

Excellent round. Very underappreciated up here in Canada. Down in the US it is very popular with long range shooters. Shot a moose with mine this year. Great performance.

I shot a beauty California Big Horn with the custom Remington I had. I had to sell the rifle though as I just cant stand Remingtons. I still do have approximately 450+ brass squirrled away still and dies. I will be building another one soon on a more presentable platform :)

I used to have a remington sendero in 7mm saum, was accurate and felt recoil was surprisingly minimal compared to the rem bdl 7mag I had prior, could have been the extra 2 or 3 pounds the sendero carried though.

My one gripe with it was if I cycled the bolt too fast sometimes that short fat case would tip down and bolt would end up riding over the round resulting in no shell chambered, not something I'd want for dangerous game but taregt shooting it was fine.

I seem to remember tweaking mag spring, adjusting mag box, cleaning feed lips, etc and never making it go away 100%, I seem to remember I went as far as molding jb weld to extend the case support rib on the follower lol

It's been around for almost 20 years... you are saying this like it is new info...

I have had two rifles in 7mm SAUM, and found it to be a well balanced cartridge... but then so are many other 7mm cartridges. I currently shoot, 7X57, 7-08, .280 Rem, 7X64 and 7mm WSM... no SAUM's in the cabinet.

Don’t forget the 284 Win!

They should’ve released the 7SAUM with a long throat, fast twist and called it the 7mm Westerner or something such and it’d be flying off the shelves

In 2002 it was all about the Core Lokt Ultra Bonded!

I've owned four 7saums, great cartridge. I went to the 280 Ackley, same ballistics and the same rifle holds 5 rounds instead of 2

I listened to the Gunwerx podcast. I can’t remember the title but it had to do with picking hunting caliber. They are huge fans of the 7’s. They mentioned the 7 Saum a lot and really liked to build them in compact configuration. 22” barrels and light weight.
