I know this is a long shot, but I hope there’s someone here that knows more about Turkish shotguns than me.

I like the generic Turkish pump action design. I say design, because the execution of that design varies a lot, going from pot metal (you know who they are) to very good (weatherby imports). Regardless of build quality, it is a very good design and I’m trying to figure out it’s history. Unlike American and European actions, the history of that design is murky.

The first one I’m aware of is the Weatherby PA-08. Right now the Canuck/derya imports are probably the most popular example here. There is also the Sinsinati/Asena, Churchill/akkar, and others.

I have handled many of these and I’m looking for the original gun. Was the Weatherby the first, that was then copied by the Turks? Or was it invented by a Turkish inventor before?

Early Weatherby pumps were made by SKB in Japan. Late and current Weatherby's are Turkish built. These imported Turkish pumps are all Turkish in design and development. You could say Weatherby had a small hand in development but not much.

All off shore pump guns are basically a clone of USA madeguns the 870 ringmaster is the most copied because it’s a good design.nothing new in design

I’ve never seen an SKB pump.
Do you mean the Patrician? I didn’t think of it. I wish I had one to make a comparison. It could be the inspiration of the current offerings.

never saw a real 870 clone from Turkey only the Norinco one....the turkish pumps I've seen all seem to suffer at least intermittent feeding problems....I've only owned a few so maybe its just my bad luck....

It's an excellent design. My understanding is that it originated with Weatherby. MUCH easier to disassemble and clean than a Mossberg. No intermittent feeding problems with my Derya made Canuck. It's now my lone home defence/survival shotgun. They are a bargain for what you get: aside from a superior disassembly design, mine came with 4 Mobile chokes, a chrome lined barrel, a super cool spiked magazine cap, and two stocks. Under $450 with tax and you can find them for less. I also upgraded to the tactical stock with two shell holders and a King's Armoury 6 shell side saddle. I also splurged and got the whole thing Cerakoted. You can also install a dovetail to Picatinny adaptor for optics. The only negative I can find is that the trigger guard assembly receiver pins are rounded at can be fiddly to remove, resulting in some minor marring around the pin holes. Aluminum sucks, but I guess its lighter than steel.

Also, when new, they may need a bit of break-in, but very quickly smoothen up.

The Canuck enforcer is 319$, at that price you’re basically buying the chokes and getting a free gun with them. And they were even cheaper before the panic buying... too cheap for me. I have one of each major pump action shotguns, but I’m waiting for someone to make a high quality version of this one to get a keeper. But I’m realistic, there is probably no market here for that.

That’s the ONLY thing holding me back from getting one, I had my eye on the defender/commander for a bit but I just can’t accept a pump with feeding issues. That’s madness.

High quality as in? Engraving and steel receiver, or extras like quality sights and more steel parts? The base Derya units are not inferior to base 870 and 500's. And I highly doubt Derya uses inferior alloys or plastics. I would also jump on a Derya pump with a metal trigger guard, steel receiver and quality ghost ring sights.

You obviously have a great deal of knowledge and experience with shotgun design and metallurgy, and are definitely not ruled by marketing hype and common denominator opinion. However, I will absolutely hold on to my opinion based on experience. If you are in the Hamilton area, you are most welcome to join me at my local club or family farm to try an assortment of boom sticks so that you can perhaps revisit your opinion.

Don't worry, for the price, try one out first. This forum can be a magnifying glass for limited issues a small percentage may experience.

I have a Charles Daly box mag honcho that has never missed a beat. I did put a stock on it. That birds eye grip is only fun for a few rounds.

I have a PA-08, IF I PUMP IT fast TRYING TO SHOOT DOUBLEs AT SKEET it will not feed the shell into the chamber. the lifter seems to throw the shell too high and when I try to chamber the shell it jams against the top of the barrel and stops the whole process.
if I pump it slow it works good every time. it functions just fine for trap shooting.
