Semi-auto CETME Modelo A

A bit about our hero Murray Smith.

Murray Smith is prime example of how Canadian Government really works, where unelected bureaucrats wield disproportional amount of power in any given field, because politicians are circus seals trained to open their mouths on command.

he is the guy who decides what is banned in Canada. Funny fact, he determined that last import of welded VZ58 was a separate "Spartan" variant of prohibited select fire Vz58 rifle, and not the NR semi Vz58 model, just based on the engraving.

He also came up with "certificate nullification" legal term, "dual use magazines" legal term, which are not in FA, decided that 22lr rifle magazine was designed for pistol 30 years before said pistol existence. Pretty much he makes "determinations" and RCMP treats them like they are law (FA).

Crown dodges the legislation prescribing 1 year limit on the reclassification by saying that FRT is just an opinion. According to Murray Smith RCMP will arrest you and Crown will charge you based on that opinion, and you will have to prove that you are innocent.

Not innocent until proven guilty, but guilty until proven innocent.

It takes a very mature and level headed person to wield real power beyond thier immediate bubble.

Some are cut out for it and some are not.

Populism is the closest term I can think of right now.
Gosh maybe it is the wrong word!?

As someone who's submitted designs through the RCMP's firearms lab and wasted years of time and money in the process, I honestly wish you better fortunes than I had.

Murray Smith is a man with an agenda. He took that job and chose to apply his personal opinion of the "intention" of the law, instead of simply following the letter of the law, which led to hypocrisy and discontinuities all throughout the RCMP firearms lab's opinions. Hopefully the court case with ATRS pulls the blanket off the gong show over there and allows the legal system to fix the mess.

Much thanks!

A good member here passed the info along to me, and I just hoped to pass the favor along. It's a bit confusing for us non-legal types, but I'd suggest you read things in this order: CCFRs injunction, Murray Smith's affidavit, then all 3 Murray Smiths cross examinations.

Do tell, especially what you submitted. Did you get a firearms inspection report back? What were the reasons for rejection?

Murray Smith is a smart man, and has enough court experience to know exactly what to say and how to say it in order to appeal to a judge. The lawyers handling the case seem pretty decent, but I just wish they had more technical firearm knowledge. Smith definitely has a bias against "military" firearms and is really your quintessential fudd. I'd disagree that is power-tripping, but instead acts more like a typical "intellectual" and assumes he is smarter and knows better than most people.

What’s with these people. Be nice just to be treated fairly for once. I honestly think some of these life long bureaucratese get off screwing people over. I really hope they get a wake up call and a little bit of sanity prevails with these challenges.

IMO, he is just a "yes" man. They ask him to come up with a ban list, he does. No matter how ridiculous his reasoning is.

Former RCMP commissioner quipped once at the reception that this year will be a "year of a magazines" as "gun lobby became arrogant with loopholes in FA" and Murray Smith made it happen.

Although, I think, Smith has a personal beef with a former owner of Wolverine Supplies (John Hipwell). Banning XCR which is not a military rifle, and leaving a Tavor off the list, seems to have a bit of a personal touch.

I'm not surprised in the least bit. Wayyy back when Canada Ammo brought in the first Tavor and was sending it around to various people as a sort of medi-tour, I went to pick it up at a local gun store. The first thing the guy working behind the counter said was "that is illegal". I asked him "oh really? what is it?" and his reply: "I don't know, but it's illegal". Lol.

I'm currently putting together a "highlight reel" of the important quotes of interest from Murray Smith. Will make another post with it in a few days.

I’m only 29 pages into his first affidavit and my brain hurts.

Smith is a smug, self aggrandizing douche, don't give him credit for being anything more - the other one of the bobsey twins, Etter, is a cretin. They've both had their own way for too many years, this time they might get their *sses kicked, but with Captain Rainbow running the show and his hand picked, local riding association approved judges calling the shots, I doubt it. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but that's the way I see it.

Any firearms experts, scientists or people with technical knowledge could walk circles around Murray's testimony.

Problem is the crown/rcmp/smith downplays the involvement of their bias in their decisions. They allow no oversight or transparency.

Murray Smith was a long-serving member of the RCMP and he deserves all the honour and respect that comes with that... :canadaFlag:

People like you who keep on parroting about the Tavor are the most likely ones to make sure that Tavors etc. will be the next fodder for a ban. Think what you want, but keep your fuoking mouth shut on what hasn't been banned. TOOL.

Should this rifle be, by some miracle on the order of the parting of the Red Sea, deemed non-restricted, I'm in for one.

That being said, I'm of the belief that the Firearms Lab will take one look at this rifle, scream "CETME variant" and boom, it's prohibited. :( :kickInTheNuts:

At least the OP is trying!!
