Got to the farm and setup at first light. Not much wind this morning and not too cold but lots of deep snow making the 500 yd walk in a little tough.....
Set the caller and decoy about 30 yds out front and to my left. I got back to the treeline (swamp behind me) and settled in....
Turned on my decoy and started playing a little dying rabbit sound on the caller while screaming out with my hand calls.... After about 5 minutes I notice something just inside the bush about 350 yds out that I didn't notice earlier. Upon closer inspection, it's a coyote looking my way.... I freeze as he is looking at the decoy which is right inline with me. I am sure he can hear my caller playing but he is not coming out into the field (snow too deep?).....
I slowly reach for my controller and I turn up the volume a bit but instead of coming out into the field, he stays inside the bush and starts moving. I catch a few glimpses of him as he moves through the bush. I loose sight of him and reposition in hopes he comes back out...
After a few more minutes, I spot him. He must have made it all around just inside the bush as he is now about 25 yds away trying to get out of the bush and into the field (it was a little funny and sad at the same time). As he tried to get over the snowdrift separating the bush from the field, he kept falling through. Kind of trying to walk but the snow not hard enough to support him, so he would fall and kind of crawl on his belly over the snow. :(
It was a 25 yds shot, he dropped and to my surprise, 6-7 seconds later, he get up and tries to go back into the swamp. I had to shoot him again

Good shooting fratri . do you need a laugh . last Saturday a buddy told me some guy posted on this facebook page he was driving down the road and saw a near death frozen dog by the side of the road chewing on a frozen deer carcass . so I said what did he do? he picked up this dog and put it on the back seat of his car and drove home and called animal control . then he came out to find the head rest of one of his seats missing . he let the puppy dog out of his car and it ran away . his neighbor yelled out that's a Coyote . yes what you shot he had on the back seat of his car . and I think from what I saw in the photo of it sitting on the back seat it looked bigger . LOL . keep shooting them . they are hitching rides with people . are you still hunting with a Savage Axis 223 ? I have heard that they work great.

a friend from work showed me some photos of the coyotes his neighbor shot with an Axis in 6.5 Creedmoor. 3 of them . one had a beautiful red coat . you take care .

Good stuff. I like stands that take a few minutes to play out and where you can kind of enjoy/be fascinated by how they behave and act.
