Ruger red label o/u info needed

I’m helping someone sell off their last firearm. It is a Ruger 12 ga Red Label o/u ducks unlimited from 1990.

He says it was barely shot, and from the pics I’ve seen it would fall between very good and excellent. Can anyone give me a ballpark on what I could list it at? His grandson looked it up so they are using google values to estimate what he should get and I told them those may be quite inaccurate. I’m hoping to have it by the end of the week.

I found the following description from an auction of the same style gun:
Ruger Model Red Label Ducks Unlimited Daniel Smith Signed .12 Ga Over & Under Shotgun w/ 28" vent rib bbls with screw in chokes [ blued finished barrels, coin finished engraved duck scene with gold highlights, by Daniel Smith, single set trigger, ejectors, checkered pistol grip stock and forend with red Ruger recoil pad, c/w Ruger pamphlets, and Ducks Unlimited fitted luggage style case, with keys, booklets, extra choke and tool, etc.,

If you're looking at prices on an American site, forget it. Canadian prices depend on the Canadian market, American prices can vary wildly from ours depending on the item.
 
Ruger Red labels are very well made strong shotguns. They were nothing fancy except in the latter years some came with machine engraving. I owned one from this period, used it for pheasant hunting and at times for sporting clays. A shame Ruger quit producing them, but they only produce what is selling and making money.

The fact that it was a Ducks Unlimited dinner gun in 1990 means squat. The engraving however adds some value. From what you describe I would place a fair value at $1500. Cdn.

I have a standard model from the 90s I paid about 1100 on here for few years ago in like new condition looked like it only a few shots thru it.
So around 1500 sounds right .
 
I've had 3 different gauges of Red Label. All were well built, but in various conditions from use which affects resale value. As has been said, the DU banner doesn't really add a value unless someone collects DU firearms. $1500 is a good start.

I understand you want to help your friend but I hope you aren't posting it in the EE as rlues clearly state you cannot sell guns for someone else. I found out the hard way when I forgot about that rule a couple years back and got an infraction and warning I could lose my EE privilidges.
As for the gun it's worth no more than a regular Ruger Red Label in the same condition. DU guns do not fetch any more money except at a dinner after a few drinks and a bidding war takes place. Lol

Any DU marked gun would have to be ridiculously discounted before it found a spot in one of my safes.

When I post it, all EE requirements will be met. I’m not chancing anything
 
The Ruger Red Label is a good gun like a Franchi or a Browning Citori, it isn't a great gun. Americans love 'em because they're 'Murrican' and it's the only American made over/under however when it was in production they didn't love it enough to keep it in production. Well made field gun, heavy for gauge, reliable but somewhat sluggish handling. Ducks Unlimited guns, prints, gadgets and gimmicks are specially commisioned to be auctioned at their fund raising auctions and many people bid far beyond the true value of the item - after all, it's a noble cause. And also many of the high rollers can write this off as a donation. The true value of most items once away from the auction, including guns is the same or less than the same item without the DU logo. It adds no value.
 
Ruger Red Labels are "like swinging a hog off the end of a shovel." Also "good for pounding fence posts". Comments I recall from the Shotgun Sports website in the crazy early days of the internet.

And a Plucks Unlimited edition? Those folks are not very famous in certain gun owning quarters.

Nothing Special. Look for a good deal. The guns are pretty solid mechanically.

One other thing. They are good for carrying on the combine, tractor or whatever on the farm. All that bouncing around does not seem to affect them too much.
