Hi I recently picked up a 2020 dated 762x39 CZ carbine and noted a few differences from a previous model.
The magazine is now separate from the trigger group and the engraving on the receiver opposite the ejection port reads 527 only.
Previous models had engravings with "527 CARBINE" or "527 M CARBINE" and the gusseted trigger assembly bottom metal.

The CZ website shows a new "M1", ( to replace their "American " model perhaps? ) model with the redesigned bottom metal like my new carbine.........
I'm wondering if they're just cutting down a 527 and chucking it into a carbine stock or is there really any difference?
I'm going to borrow a friend's mic and check the muzzle O.D. on mine, anyone able to pull a reading off theirs for comparison?
Too many variants.......too little time....thx guys.

The magazine is now separate from the trigger group .
Do you mean the bottom metal/trigger guard doesn't have the little "wing" ? The m1 version never had it. That's why there are 3 Rd 223 mags.

All my 7.62x39 carbines (3) came with a plastic trigger guard with no wing. All the 223 CZs even recent carbines came with metal trigger guards with the wing that only allows the use of 5rd mags, except a fairly recent 223 night sky edition. I've been thinking of swapping it out with the one on my full stock to get a flush mounted mag but the plastic one feels pretty cheap.

The 7.62 and 223 bottom metal aren't interchangeable due to the width of the mag. I've always wondered why they made the 7.62x39 without the wing when they don't sell a 3rd mag but have it on almost all 223s which does have a flush mag.

Hi. Pretty much my point. My previous 762 carbine, 2018 manufacture date, had a metal trigger guard with the gusset ( wing ).
In fact, if you google cz 762 carbine all you see are gussetted trigger groups.
I believe a previous poster,Kurgan, is correct, they’re switching over and dropping design lines.
The non-gussetted seems perfectly functional, not sure about that “plastic trigger guard” tho, I’ll have to take a closer look at mine.
My only comment would be that the missing web at the mag-well deters from the cz “look” in my opinion.
Also, I don’t really see a purpose in leaving out that bit of strengthening webbing at the mag-well, they don’t make 3 round mags in 762 do they?
So a manufacturing cost-cut perhaps.

There could be a lot of shuffle of models and production locations now as CZ bought Colt and Cold Canada. They are dropping and reducing all they can before the new strategy and model line comes into play.

I just picked up a new carbine same as yours, mine say 527 only on the receiver ...nice little gun none the less :)

Hey guys, thanks very much to all for adding your comments, helps confirm what I was thinking.
As Kurgan said, and CZ website, they are indeed gearing up for a change. They’ve already said they’re discontinuing some of the 527 line amongst others and also bringing in design changes.
I suspect the 2020 model Carbines already reflect some of that, oh well.
If anybody cares, I checked the trigger guard on my 20 carbine and it seems to be made of metal. The finish is a nitride, the same as on their 457 line of .22s.
Now just to find the time to get to the range and shoot it!

They are not nitrided. I emailed Cz hoping they were. They emailed back and said they were not nitrided, and did not have plans to produce them nitrided. Why they would nitride .22's and not 7.62's that will have corrosive ammo, I don't know.

Oh. Ok. Oops, I just assumed a nitride finish as it looks the same as their new 457 22s.
Now I’m not even sure about the 22s being nitrided or did I read that about something else?
I haven’t gone so far as to scratch-test my trigger guard, but it feels like metal and has a small wear spot.

The question for me is what the hell does CZ have up their sleeves? Maybe another production location in US? They mentioned in their news release that they are struggling with production capacity. I would not be at all surprised to hear them build a new line of hunting rifles with receivers scaled to ammo size. No separate 527 and 557. I also bet they continue to focus on their highly successful pistol lines, especially with the acquisition of Colt. I am actually quite excited for 2022.

The 457s are nitrided. It's bizarre and enough to confuse anyone.

Does anyone have a 2-7X scope (in either 32mm or 40mm) mounted on their recent model 527?

If so, which scope do you have and which rings and height did you use?

I am looking at the lowest possible configuration that still clears the bolt handle and the rear sight.

Thanks.

my leupold VX2 3-9x40 clears the new design bolt handle and rear sight with medium warne QR rings.

I think you pretty much need to go medium to get bolt handle clearance on the scope...I've got a 1.5-4x20 on mine in med. rings
