WS-MCR Should I get the galil style folding stock

Hey guys,

I am looking at purchasing a WS-MCR but can't decide between the galil style folder and regular AR-style stock. How is the length of pull on the galil stock? I heard that wolverine recently shortened the LOP on the stocks. I am 5 foot 10 with a muscular build. Thanks

I too would like some input on this . Is it worth the extra cost ? , I saw someone selling one on the Exchange Forum mention that it has some free play when folded , is that a problem ?

I do not know where the post is here but a fellow member had mentioned the LOP was increased to an uncomfortable length. He mentioned he was 6ft4in.

The LOP is 14" on mine. Recent purchase so should be the latest. I'm 6'2" and it works fine for me. Saw some earlier posts that the tubes could be cut for a shorter LOP if you want. The play when folded, on mine, is negligible. It is tight on my trigger finger between the grip and the folding stock though when in that position. YMMV

I mean you'll buy it, most likely never need to fold it and then have a worse (and colder in winter) cheek weld.

But you'll have paid more money so there's always that

Depends on your application. Mine came with it. The LOP is fine for me (I'm 5'8") and it locked up tight when extended. I guess there's a bit of play when it's folded but not that would matter in any way I can imagine. I don't imagine you could shoot the rifle with the stock folded (not that I can see why you'd want to) as the ejecting cases would hang up on the stock. I liked the shorter OAL the folder gave you (when folded) for storing in a smaller case but found the cheek weld, although fine for use with a red dot, was less than ideal with an actual optic/LPVO. So I swapped mine for a CTR on a buffer tube with a MDT folding adapter.

Can you use a magnified optic easily?

Just ordered one with the folding stock. Is it the height that makes the cheek weld difficult or the skinniness of the stock? I imagine some grip-tek foam wrap could help.

Has anybody tried the Zhukov version (LOP adjustable)?

Yes I have on the WK-180.

Length is identical to my Magpul Fixed stock which I find a little short (6 ft 1 in) when in a Tshirt. Fits me perfectly with heavier winter clothing.
However, I just pull it out one notch and it is now adjusted for warm-weather wear.

Yeah, it's more the skinniness, the height is ok. I honestly just prefer the feel of a good cheek weld on a regular (for AR) width stock. If I had just left the aimpoint on it, I woulda kept the Galil folder but I found the rifle to be accurate enough to warrant an LPVO to stretch it out a ways so went with a buffer tube+folding adapter to maintain that short folded length.

I have the WS-MCR with the Galil style stock. Other than looks, the stock has the advantage that it folds away for traveling/carrying purposes. At 5'9", I'm not a giant and I find the LoP fine for me. My cheek weld was acceptable and to prevent cold contact, I put a strip of neoprene tape on the stock. As reported by others, the stock locks up tight when extended and has excellent build characteristics. Because the stock come as standard for my rifle, there was a $150 premium over the regular WS-MCR. Would I pay $250 extra for it? No. However, considering the build quality, I didn't mind the $150 extra cost when I purchased it as a combined unit.

Thanks for answering all my concerns.

What are you all doing for sling mounting options on the Galil folder?

Unfortunately, this version of the WS-MCR doesn't lend well to sling options. Personally, I didn't buy the rifle to sling it around. It's more of a bench/bipod apparatus for me. However, if I was going to mount a sling, I would attach an M-LOK compatible picatinny rail on the front fore of the rifle. You can find rails that have a QD sling mount attachment point (I found one on Amazon). Also, there are sets that have a tube mount that can go around the tube of the stock. Here is an example:

You'll probably have to modify the tube mount as I doubt it would be an exact fit.

I hated mine. added a ton of extra weight.
I found that the cheek weld was to high and you had to squish your face into the metal bar on the stock
Its a stiff pain in the ass to open.
wished I would have gotten the other style.

I think the only benefit to this stock I can see or dream up is getting out of my truck to shoot a coyote ... But then the time it takes to try and unfold it I bet the coyote is long gone. Pretty disappointed. I am hoping it grows on me slowly... The entire gun was a total disappointed the first day I got it , but the second day it wasn't as bad. So here is hoping the third is gooder ? Finding out that my 10 new pmags fit helped. After reading other forums that scared me .
