always loved the way a 870 fit me, thinking of a 12ga, maybe a wingmaster if i can find one. But what about parts in the future? should I consider something else? thoughts???

Even if they completely stopped making them (they won’t) parts scarcity wouldn’t be an issue for about another 100 years

Both the Remington & Mossberg are super popular and reliable pump action shotguns. Mossberg has the ambidextrous safety, double-extractor, nicer shell lifter, tons of upgrades, and is used by the military. While Remington has the smoother action, steel receiver, and better pistol grip setup.

don't be fooled by the steel receiver - the barrel on the Mossberg locks into a steel piece in the receiver the advantage its lighter and just as strong - had several 870's didn't shoot reliably until I threw money at it and became an unoffical QC employee at Remington Arms. Have a Mossberg 500 and a Maverick - both "to me" are leaps and bounds better than remington.

In reality, the bolt locks into the steel barrel extension.

870 Don't need parts - ever. Any problems are from unnecessary "upgrades". Buy with confidence.

An 870 express has extraction issues with some ammo and people also polish the chamber because it's rough - I speak with experience since I had to do this on three 870's that I've owned. I would agree with you if your referring to the newer Wingmaster or one from the 60's-70's they were excellent leaving the factory

Both are fine, no frills pump action shotguns, and both are used by militaries... not that it is indicative of anything significant.

Mossberg 500 is a ok entry level gun a best 870 express one small step above a mossberg 870 wing master leader of the pack on the market today . If your worried about parts buy a firing pin and a extractor and your good for life .

Don’t get too excited yet... there won’t be a shortage of 870s or parts anytime soon. I’ve seen a few guys on the EE trying to cash-in on “they ain’t made anymore”... lol

ok cool lots parts, i will decide soon, whichever feels better pulling up to shoulder I guess, will check out mossberg tomorrow, thanks all.

Remington is already getting the factory back up and the first model off the line will be 870s.

Here is the reality .... new Wingmasters have been absent from the Canadian market for at least a year now. If not longer ....
Dealer's shelves have been empty for over a year ....

If you want to buy a Wingmaster ... you only have the used market right now .... and nobody really knows when Wingmasters will make their way back to Canada again ...

Yes, the new owner of Remington wants to launch the production of 870 again ... but nobody knows what models ... Wingmasters? Express? Police? Marine? A completely new budget model?

And nobody knows when the new owner will be able to supply 870 again .... I mean they have to renegotiate all the supply contracts again ... and negotiate with the workers union to come to a new agreement ... etc. ...

In short ... it might be a while till we see new 870 on the market again .... and nobody knows what models ....
Maybe it will only be the Express line ...... who knows ....

For someone who spends an enormous amount time behind a pump gun, I consider the Benelli Nova the entry level for a term reliable pump. My primary target pumps are Browning BPS's. The 870's I've owned have never ejected well, the Mossberg never felt quality to me. The Benelli will load, fire and eject anything you feed it reliably, tears down completely in under a minute without tools, the last one I owned had 16000 shells through it when I sold it, never skipped a beat and showed little signs of wear.
