SHTF : Why AR's ?

Remember we lost water in Vancouver for 2 crummy days? People were already pushing and shoving each other for water jugs and food etc.

How long do you think it really takes for social order to break down? I think not too long, since most people around us have a victim mentality.

but I'm constantly amazed by people who dont have a few days (min) supplies of bottled water and food - as well as
Wood Burning stove/Fireplace
Propane for stove/BBQ

It should be manditory as a CGN'er to have emerg. supplies and a plan for at home and away senarios.

My city buds make fun of my emerg. kit all the time. The mention this is their destination should there be a 'situation'.

How hard is it to go to Costco, wally mart etc and build a kit? It really doesn't take much $$ either.

Because it's what I was told to buy early on in my gunnettedness :D

Now I realize it's what everyone I will be linking up with after the SHTF carries, and we want to make sure ammo, parts and mags are GTG in everyones gun.

Makes is easier to group buy ammo.

I have actually lived through social breakdowns, 3 of them to exact (the joys of growing up in the 3rd world).
Only once did the firearms see the outside of the cabinet; the two other occasions were military coup attemps, and you do not want to poke your nose outside (armed with civilian hardware) when the local army is going at itself.
On all 3 occasions, LEOs were absent (as were ambulances, fire and rescue, and so on).

Good point. In a real SHTF situation where you got to use your SHTF gun you would be luck to empty the mag before the military, police, or someone else with a SHTF gun got you.

A place like Toronto probably wouldn't be used to extend blackouts as much as a maritime city. they might be more prone to flipping out. Then again maybe not.

Toronto was awesome when the blackouts hit a few years back. Everyone was partying, bars were offloading their beer supplies dirt cheap... there were people just out and about walking around and having fun.

That's not to say that it would stay that way had the blackouts continued for a few days, but whatever. It was actually a fun and worry-free experience.

How long did the blackout last? If it went on for a few days OR if the water turned off, Toronto would be over. We talk about the power going out as being the problem but in reality everything is mostly fine if the water is running. As soon as the water shuts off and the stores run out of bottled stuff death and looting begins.

You can live a life time of barrenness and blandness in the middle of nowhere to wait for SHTF or have as much fun as possible in Toronto before the moment of death.

THe choice seems to be pretty obvious!

mandatory? thats rediculous. lot of members on here with a lot of different views about guns and the world. Think of this board like the rest of canada, but with a better ratio of people to guns.

guess it should be mandatory for you to have enough supplies for all of your buds for a month then too?

its pretty easy, and cheap. and i dont have one. yet. Not because i dont want a kit or a BOB but because living in this condo we dont have any more room for anything. But they are high priorities for me when we move into a house.

By the way not trying to single you out or flame, i just dissagreed. Feel free to bring your supplies and ar over and we can group up at the worlds end to make a stand. I should have supplies (other than guns and ammo) by then. :)

It was around 24 hours if I remember right. Everything was dead for the most part. We still had water though, and maybe one or two radio stations were still working.

Damn skippy. When it all hits the fan I'll be the drunk guy with guns running around Toronto partying it up while the rest of you are stuck in some shack in the middle of nowhere freezing your asses off. :runaway: Plus in this urban sprawl my rifle only needs to be effective out to 50-100m anyway so the 11.5" SHTF-GUN will do juuust fine :)
