Check out gearbuggy.com, First Strike scope stands. Ewing scope stands, Crispin scope stand. Champion's Choice scope stands. Freeland stands at one time were the gold standard. Over the last 20-30 years with heavier spotting scope coming onto the market, scope stands evolved.
Even though you may think that it will just be used for shooting prone there may be times when you will want to bring the scope up a few feet to use while sitting in a coaches chair or watching conditions before you get to the line. Freeland stands are not he best suited for this application.
Ditto on the Freeland stand. It is heavy cast aluminum with a crinkle finish. The head has a fine vertical adjustment screw for aiming. There are chrome extension rods for shooting position or sitting in a chair. It single advantage over the others is how low it is for prone. That might be a disadvantage the higher your eyeball is.
Great timing! I just picked up a Leupold gold ring spotter on the EE. I too have been researching lightweight/compact tripods. My concerns are weight and height to spot standing. The sirui T-024SK with the VA-5 fluid pan head comes up well regarded. Slik and Outdoorsman, if you’ve got the money. I’d love a Slik cf tripod and compact Outdoorsman compact head, but I think that’s getting close to a grand. Oof.
