Greatest cartridge ever invented? no magnums

Tough, I know. I have been pondering it. But from the battle at San Juan hill all the way to the elephant fields of Africa. I picked the 7x57 Mauser. What do you guys think?

What do you mean by greatest? Most widely used? Most versitle? Most impact on the cartridge design? In that case, I would have to say the 8x57 which scores on all three counts.

By leaving out the magnums, you're left with "Greatest of the also ran's" Pickin' through the second string is pointless.

If you are taking everything into consideration, you have to consider reloading. That is the reason I would pick the 30-06 hands down, over the 308. I claim there is no other calibre as easy and versitile as the 30-06, to reload for.

I agree ,the 7x57 is probably the classiest caliber going.
