Remington 700 Classic Recoil Pad Removal

Hi Fellas
I have the above rifle in 30.06 with stock hockey puck recoil pad on it I would like to put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it .
There does not seem to be any holes in the factory recoil pad to remove the screws . Does anyone know if in fact it is screwed on or glued on ?

Going to try putting the Limbsaver on without getting the stock trimmed back . Maybe the increased length of pull with the new recoil pad won’t be too bad .

Use a razor knife to cut the seam between the stock and the pad before you try and separate them. I’ve had a couple stocks stick and splinter off before.

And as already stated, there should be screws holding it on.
 
I did the above recently. It was screwed and glued. A real pain. Some say freeze the stock and it will break the glue bond. Ended up getting the screws out on mine then trimmed it off with a miter saw.

Get the screw's 0ut - Then tape the stock up onto the pad - Then cut the stock off just ahead of the factory pad with a table or chop saw with about a 80 tooth SHARP blade - Then you can install the new pad - BEST yet take it over to GEF and PAY him to do it right for you !

GEF was going to do it for me when I had my rifles in for bedding but I think he was busy and it did not get done so I just brought the rifle home . No slight towards GEF at all he is great ! I’m just a little hesitant to have wood cut off the stock it seems like a sin .
But that factory hockey puck pad sucks on the 30.06 it beats your shoulder up pretty bad when at the range , it I’m a whimp. Yes I know when hunting it will only be one shot , hopefully . Maybe I’ll just leave it I have taken 4 moose with it , but I think I have a flinch when I shoot it . I’m going to see just how much thicker the Limbsaver is over the factory one .

Why not buy one of those PAST shoulder pads? They work well at the bench and you'll never feel recoil whilst shooting at game.

There are other brands as well. I had good luck with mine.
 
Hi GEF Oh yes you had just forgot not intending any slight at all , your an awesome gunsmith ! I did get the recoil pad off thanks to the replies I got . But now I’m still sitting on the fence as to wether I want to go ahead and have it done . If so I will for sure bring it to you ! Thank You!
