Stevens 200 stock embelishment

Anybody have any suggestions about stiffening the forend of the Stevens 200 stock?

Yes, I'm about to do one, as well as epoxy bedding the receiver and recoil lug. The stiffening procedure that I'm going to use involves a piece of 3/8" keystock that is drilled and tap to receive the front swivel stud. The keystock is cross drilled and placed into the forend channel. The cross ribs in the forend needs to be opened up to allow placement of the keystock. Epoxy is poured in and flows through the cross-holes. This will undoubtely add some weight forward, but that's a good thing. I also plan to fill the voids in the stock itself.

The rifle will also receive an SSS trigger and when I'm happy with the end result, I will paint the stock using an airbrush. There certainly are some inspiring paint jobs on this site. A bit lengthy, but something to do when it gets dark so early these days. I can document with pictures if you like. :)

gitrdun...

a 'tutorial' w/pics would be greatly appreciated!

LeRoy

Will do LeRoy, I'm in the process as we speak. I'll take pictures and post it with an explanation of the process. It could be a while as I take my time, no sense in rushing this work. I'll PM you a link to the thread when done. :)

Just out of curiosity, how easy is it to mov the stevens over onto one of those microfit stocks?

It's a piece of cake whammy. A long as you don't have two left thumbs and have the tools to do it, one of which is patience. It's also easier to fit sporter barrels than bull barrels. If you have to open up the barrel channel for a bull barrel, then it's a bit more time consuming. Also, if you want to pillar mount, then there's some extra work. Otherwise, it's not too bad.

Thanks for the link, Paul. I just ordered a dozen. :)

$5.40/dozen. What a deal! I am going to put one in each side of all my Stevens, and three on the 223 Ackley (one in the forend). :runaway:

That will leave one to send to you for your Kimber.

Fabulous! Thanks again for the link!!!!

Thanks, but I have something reeeeeeeally special planned for the Kimber.

I'm getting one of those "deer jumping over a log" frescos carved on the side of the butt stock. One of the neighbor's kids is taking arts&crafts at highschool and agreed to do it for me.

That's why the Stevens is no good ....... You can't carve deer and mooses on a plastic stock.

Why don't you get a wood burning kit from Princess Auto and get the satisfaction of saying "I did it myself" ?
