Laugo Alien Review video

Well done Steve!

as I said in the vid comments. Pistol is nice no doubt, but for 6 G's you can hold onto your Glock and buy 12 thousand rounds for practice and competing. Wanna glock MOS with RDS, take the number of rounds you buy down to 10 thou. That will likely leave you enough dough to get a holster too.

It’s a terrific modular design but it’s still a gas operated 9mm pistol. Gas operated pistols like this one & the similar HK P7 are over complicated vs simpler recoil operated 9mm’s.
Like the HK P7/P8, the barrel is factory pinned to the frame & is not-at-all easily replaced. Want a better barrel? Worn out barrel? Out of luck there. With the exception of the gas operated Desert Eagle, gas operated 9mm pistols are 5 times more expensive than standard recoil-operated 9mm pistols but don’t offer 5 times more benefits. IMHO.

So I can only speak from experience with the P7. It is far from being a complicated system. What's complicated on the P7 is the squeeze cocker mechanism....the gas system is a gas cylinder, piston and gas port. The barrel manufacturing puts in the fluting of the chamber. What the gas does in the P7 is delay the blowback operation until chamber pressures have come down and the case can be reliably extracted. nothing else. It does get hot as heck though if you are doing long and quick shooting strings. But there are not any more significant parts in the delayed blowback of the P7 when compared to the locking mechanism of a Glock or 1911.

The simplicity of a well-functioning machine is the ultimate engineering success... This gun is not over complicated but provides very good engineering solutions to a design requirement; lower barrel axis. The way the hammer designed, modularity, the trigger mechanism, how the piston placed, are all simple yet great engineering solutions.

I doubt 9mm loads will ever erode Alien's barrels which eventually will require a barrel replacement. Same goes with P7, those had one of the best quality barrels by any standard...

This gun is marketed for practical shooters trying to improve their game. There are more expensive recoil-operated guns out there as well, so don't think the price is not justified and will eventually drop to $3500 at one point in the future I guess...
