It looks like an 1873..and it is the only hangun this french soldier could have according to the regulations. The knife is nothing else than a common butcher knife.

Agreed it's an 1873 but why is it the only handgun he could have IAW the regulations? Didn't the French field plenty of other issued revolvers and automatics far more modern than the 1873?

France used the 1892 revolver and 1873 revolver in ww1. In a trench fight I would pick the 1873 (45 cal)over the M1892 (33 cal) if I was given a choice.

I wouldn’t want to raid a trench using an 1873.... that brutally heavy trigger/hammer spring wouldn’t work well especially if I were cold and sleep-deprived. An 1892 would at least be faster and lighter.

I'd rather have the 45. A nice trigger is wonderful when you're shooting targets but not so much if the target is shooting back at you. Th 1892 DA trigger isn't exactly light either.
