My mother has an old Savage 4C. This gun was my grandfathers and it is heavy and the rear sight keeps sliding from side to side in the dovetail mount.

She only shoots squirrels & coons when the invade her bird feeders and garden, she only shoots 22 shorts.

I don't want to get her a semi because they don't cycle with shorts.

How would a BL-22 work as a top loader...most times she only puts one bullet in at a time.

Any other suggestions for a light easy loader?

If its for lightness, ease of use and a single shot, and also not so expensive, my vote is for the Henry Mini-bolt.

IF you want to stay with Savage why not get a new single shot Savage mk I-G they look like they might be a good gun and SIR has them for only $184.99 20inch barrel and 5 1/2 lbs.

Savage Mk1 G

I notice that this model even has the Accutrigger.

Yea the Savage mk1 g does have the accutrigger. Rebel3.0 was thinking about getting one for his daughter. As she is shooting his Savage 4c and it is really big. It has a long 14inch or better pull and a 24 inch barrel.

I know it's shamless but this one would be perfect. Accepts shorts and is easy to load single. :)

Any good gunsmith ( and a lot of savvy enthusiasts [not Bubba] ) can solve the " sliding-in-the-dovetail " for you in minutes at negligible or no cost.

As to "heavy" ... amputate a few inches off the barrel and re-affix the front sight ... if you really have to.

The BL-22 can never be a top loader, as the loading/ejection port is on the side ...and it's rather small and akward to load singles.

Besides ... she probably likes her old gun .... just needs a little modification to keep her happy !!!

Grab an old Cooey model 39 accurate as all get out and can be found for $50easy to load and shoots shorts longs and longrifles Give Mom her choice of rounds for those farther back from the house feeders:evil:
