I use blackpowder only in my Browning 1885 BPCR.
The rifle cleans up easily.
It's the cartridges that are an absolute pain in the ass to clean.![]()
What are you doing to clean them? I let sit in soap and hot water for a spell, then clean with a small bottle brush, rinse, let dry and tumble. It's even easier if you have soap and water at the range to dump them into immed.(doesn't have to be hot)
That should make you real popular with folks......
Next time I'll try cleaning them at the range. I'm a member of OSGC & there is a sink in the washroom at the rifle range.

DO YOU USE A FILLER OR WAD WITH UNIQUE LOAD?I have a Shilo Sharps #3 Sporting Rifle in .45-70. As a Cowboy Action shooter I have tried to replicate the 1880's issued ammunition of 1,350 fps. My 2 favourite loads using a 405 grain lead bullet from the Bullet Barn are either 15.0 grains of Unique or 39.0 grains of IMR 4895. I have used both out to 300yds effectively. The second load of 39.0 grains of IMR 4895 seems to ring the gong at 300 a little louder though.
Why anyone would want to violate even a $1,000.00 rifle with Black powder is beyond me!
RodB Have a container of water with a dash of dish soap and if possible a deprimer. Shoot Deprime drop in the jug take them out a at home brush the insides and let dry. Can't say as I ever really noticed the sulphur smell other than when you sniff the water.
