Hello,
I'm a collector of Canadian web gear from 37 pattern to 82 pattern. I collected a full set of 82 pattern and lots of extra bits all in unissued condition. It was stored in a tote, not air tight. I opened the tote the other day and most of it has gone bad. Parts are white stained and dried out while other parts feel very oily that comes off on your hands. It's a lot of pieces I've collected from different first aid kits to holsters and compass cases. I originally thought it was because it was stored in the tote but remember I had a NBC pack hanging with some jackets and it's gone bad as well. This is very upsetting for something I spent a lot of time collecting and care for. Has any one have similar happen or know something I can do to fix it. Thanks for your help. Ken

Yes!

Throw the affected stuff in your washing machine on a gentle cycle with only a little detergent. Air dry thoroughly on a nice warm day outside. Put some dessicant packs in the tote to keep moisture out. Still trying to figure out how to stop my shelter halves from smelling like dog puke......

I thought that was just the CF version of "Springtime Fresh"

Hope it cleans up for you.

I use my '82 webbing whenever I ride my ATV all year round and when I'm hunting all year round from Big game to rabbits to coyote. So it gets from summer uv and dust, through downpours, to freezing over Winter whites. Very good LBE. I always let it hang inside in the open and its seen everything you can imagine. I've been thinking on picking up a newer kit, but at my age I think mines going to outlast me.

Would you prefer leather that rotted in front of your eyes?

The advice about detergent, mildew killer and airing things out is as good as it gets.
