Too many new things to wrap my head around.
I need to just order quickload for myself soon.
Savage model 10 .308 Win 24" barrel.

I was going to run a ladder from 41.9 to 44.6.
My 3 fouling shots were 43,5 grains which was the midway point of my ladder so that I could zero the scope.
I had the settings wrong on the also new Labradar so those first 3 shots didn't register

Old setup was running the factory barrel with Lapua brass 175.4 grain average with 56.4 grains of water.
175 SMK
FGMM Primers
COAL 2.800"
44.1 grains of Varget
2650 FPS using my Chrony Gamma Master.

New setup IBI 24" stainless barrel New Lapua brass fire formed. 175.5 grain average with 56.3 grains of water.
178 A-Max
COAL 2.865, 2.189 CBTO
FGMM primers (same lot number)
Now using a Labradar and the same lot # of Varget
42.2 gr 2639, 2649, 2648 VO Av. 2645 ES 10, SD 5.5
42.5 gr 2669, 2636, 2645 VO Av. 2650 ES 32, SD 16.7
42.8 gr 2681, 2676, 2677 VO Av. 2678 ES 5, SD 2.7

With the velocity climbing much quicker and higher than expected I decided to stop the ladder and figure out what kind of pressure I was experiencing.

The brass shows no signs of overpressure, no extractor marks, no primer flow around the firing pin, no excessive flattening.

Thanks in advance

I think thats fairly normal, your velocity is rising in a linear fashion with charge weight. If you are concerned about the comparative velocities between your old load and your new load, I would suspect errors (drift) in your old chrony readings.

Do you know how far off your lands you are in each barrel? The discrepancy could be the difference in where your lands start. You need that to estimate the shot start pressure.

44.1gn of Varget under a 175gn strikes me as a stout load for the velocity you were getting.

IMHO, your velocities haven't increased dramatically.

The weights are almost identical so that shouldn't cause any issues

The only real difference is that the AMax has a longer bearing surface than the SMK. Again, likely not enough to increase pressures.

If you aren't getting case head expansion at the base of the web, I wouldn't be to worried.

Your load is right on suggested maximum, so I wouldn't push it any further. It seems to be giving good accuracy, so you should be fine.

That load should be generating just over 60k psi, which isn't bad, considering the strengths of your action and the excellent quality of your components.

The slight differences you notice are likely just the differences between the old and new barrel.

I was at 2650 with 44.1 in the factory barrel using my Chrony Gamma Master.
It went 4,000 rounds before accuracy dropped off.

I pulled out my Hornady manual last night and according to them 42.1 is their max load going by memory.
I think I’m going to back down to 39 grains for a starting weight and run a complete ladder.
Maybe I’ll find a more accurate node a little lower down.
If I don’t I’ll keep going till I see pressure signs.
