Are IWI X95s That Are Sold as .223 Actually 5.56?

I got some good news from a CGNer yesterday who told me that the X95s that are 223 may actually be 5.56, but IWI wanted to make it more commercial friendly from a listing perspective, since .223 ammo will fit in a 5.56 chambered rifle. I looked up some info on this on here, and didn't seem much, but saw a picture thread for X95 and from the couple of photos I saw closeup, I saw 5.56 stamped on the barrel.

The confusion I have (aside from naturally caused) is that some stores are selling (all sold out) X95s at .223. Only one store I have seen lists it as a 5.56. That is what I am looking for.

Can any current owners of this rifle confirm that what you bought listed as a .223 has a barrel that has 5.56 stamped on it? That would be welcome news to me as I am eagerly waiting to buy one whenever it gets back in stock, but prefer it in 5.56 as that's what I currently have ammo-wise and would save me the cost of buying new .223 ammo.

Ok, thanks for the info - sorry I wasn't aware this was a wider standing practice. So in these cases, the box and such will say 223, but the barrel will say 5.56?
 
There are no rules, and there isn't any issue big enough to justify making any.

Buy whatever rifle you want and shoot whatever ammo you have in it. Keep your eyes open for problems initially. If you don't see any, carry on.
 
It really doesn't make any difference these days. I believe thefirearmblog did an interview with IWI and confirmed that 5.56 and 223 rem would be absolutely fine

Pretty much. Whether it has 556 or 223 stamped on the barrel, it will shoot both without danger to the shooter. I am yet to see a single verified report of a gun going kaboom because 556 was used in a gun stamped 223. Due to chamber differences, you might find one is more accurate than the other, but with a gun like the X95 you're not going to get sub-MOA groups with any ammo anyways (unless you get extremely lucky).
