Looked at a few mid grade semi's today and a couple seem to fit well. Browning Silver and the A300, both in walnut. Both seem like decent shotguns but have only ever tried the A300. Going to be a do everything gun, odd trap, clays, upland and maybe geese if I can find the time. Are these both contenders or should I look for a used Maxus, A400, SX3 etc?

I purchased a Synthetic Browning Maxus for an all around use for anything shotgun and added extended chokes for sporting clays ease of choke changing. Fills the bill when I don’t use my Sporting O/U or dedicated trap gun. Also steel shot can be used for goose hunting and its super light for upland carry and so little recoil.

After shooting the SX-3 exclusively for waterfowl for five years, I was told about a 30-60% off sale on Browning firearms at a Canadian Tire store. The Maxus Wild Wings Bronze Edition was on for $1299, so I couldn't resist. I shot four rounds of skeet with 1 ounce Challenger target loads, and zero issues. This will be my go to waterfowl gun, but the reality is, it would be a good all around shotgun.

I had an a300 Outlander in walnut for many years of duck hunting and skeet shooting, but died after about 5 years. Barrel came loose inside the receiver. I have an A350 now and its a HUGE upgrade over the A300, maybe look into them!

Any chance you can give some detail on how the barrel comes loose inside the receiver ? I don’t understand how the reciever can wear where the barrel seats.

I use my Silver for everything. Shoots as good as it did day 1. #9 target loads or Magnum turkey loads, all cycle fine. I've got a Mossberg 500 pump as backup but have never used it for that purpose, but I've started babying the high gloss and walnut Silver and thinking it'll run in trap league this year and I'll get a Supernova in camo to use as a canoe paddle and bird smasher.
