Re: The belted 8mmx63 ammo.

I know that shipping will kill me and that group buys need approval; however, does anybody have any ideas on how to reduce the shipping charges on this surplus? I'd love to get 3 cases or so, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg for shipping from Van Kleek Hill to the GTA area. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Rich

Shipping costs are set by the carrier, not the retailer. They're based on the weight and size of the package. Ammo isn't packed in overly large containers, but it is heavy. And it has to be carried by specific licenced carriers.
TO(downtown) to Van Kleek Hill is a 5.5 hour drive, one way. 503.63 KM, one way. Pay for the gas or pay the freight. Consider the size of your vehicle too.
"...group buys need approval..." From who? One guy orders and arranges shipping to his house. The rest help pay for it. Mind you, you'd have to consider quantities too. Large bulk purchases will set off alarm bells.

Wow...

10 hours drive or pay a 40% a case for shipping - not much of an option

Thanks for the lesson on shipping. I guess my 28 years in Customs and Traffic was wasted

Not much cheaper: I called them to find out.

And yes, all group buys must be approved on this board

Andy, You are lucky to live so close... Headed west anytime soon?

I'm 45 minutes away, so my method is obvious. Nope, no chance I'll play delivery boy.

Why don't you just do the Group Buy thing, get an order for 10,000+ rounds and have a GTA guy pick it up and distribute it? You might get a quantity discount, and will pay less for shipping.

P.S. they weigh about 40kg/1000

From greentips.

From the FAQ at the top of this page.
#7 Solicitation of donation or group buys must receive prior approval from CGN admin.

When I bought mine, it didn't come on belts. It came in big wooden boxes, packed with paper boxes that contained the cartridges. I guess someone at Marstar wanted the belts. I really had no use for them anyway.
I've pulled several dozen bullets from the cartridges and reused the powder and bullets in my 8mm Gibbs. The only change made to the charge has been to take an average weight of 20 cartridge contents and measure it out in that quantity into the 8mm Gibbs.
Buy it, it's well worth the price and the trouble to pull the bullets for use in other cartridges, they are consistant in weight and quite accurate at long ranges. This winter I will be building another rifle chambered to the 8x63 round. The last one appealed in quite a significant manner to a friends wallet. bearhunter

I talked to Marstar and heard from them that you choose on belts or not. On belts costs more $$ as they sell belts for good $$ and make up difference in labour of removing the rounds from the belts plus make profit.

Three months ago, 2000 rnds cost me $285 shipped to the gta tax in. Buying more doesn't help as the 1000 rnds has to be split in to two parts as it weighs more than the single package limit. So my order came in three boxes. I can't believe its as cheap as it is given the work it gives them.

I got 5000K to the GTA and trust me shipping was a killer each crate has 1750 rnds of ammo on belts its REALLY heavy it came in a transport truck on a pallet

BEST and ONLY way is 10,000 rnds or more as discount should apply makeing shipping free/cheaper big time

one barfly pm me we can talk Im down to 750 rnds........ but wont ordetr till after xmas

anyone else in gta shoot this stuff???

I have a BRAND new 8x63 swedish chamber reamer.........
