Appreciate opinions from folks who use a 20ga rifled bbl for deer (search for previous threads on the topic didn't reveal much).

Thinking of acquiring a Benelli M2 Slug Gun for next season.....see too many deer while out bird hunting, well, the situation will likely shift when I am looking specifically for deer :) Just as well carry one in the truck.

I figure a 20ga slug under 100 yds using iron sights should be ok with some regular practise :)

Thanks,

Try this, very good tread on the NEF slug gun... .

I did look at the H&R some months ago - it's a good product.....while I've no problems with it being a single shot....the idea of the single action and absence of factory irons didn't appeal to me (I am not planning on using a scope) :).

A number of our group members are switching to 20's for the weight and lessened recoil and so far the results have been positive on all levels. The deer that they have shot all were recovered at typical distances and kills have been made from 20 to 160yards. There is a mix of guns from 870's to 500's and an 1100 and they all seem to shoot about equal accuracy wise. I am thinking of getting a 20 for use during drives for the lessened mass alone. I would think the Benelli would perform just as well, so far the best accuracy has been from lightfield hybrid sabot slugs and better accuracy seems to be from the 1600fps range of sabots.
