SKS, a beautiful rifle in its original proven form

Jmcc - When I go out to shoot the SKS, I fire 1-200. I can't afford the Barnaul at $15/bx (or more), I'm saving the 2-300 Barnaul I have for the Zombie attacks. I've got a couple of cases of Chinese for when the Chinese attack (come to evict after the Turd sells everything to them). I've got a '51 Tula in Tapco and hit 2-3" using irons with the Chinese. Haven't fired B with this gun.

I miss the steady flow of LCW ammo from the factory over in Ukraine... non corrosive steel jacketed HPs at only .25-30 cents a pop. Stuff is very lethal on small game. My Russian SKS seems to like it. 5 shot patterns averaging 2.8 moa. That ammo is dream material. Its a shame the factory got "dismantled" by the "Russians" when they "invaded" the Ukraine... The most accurate 7.62x39 ammo ive found to date is Hornady Z-max / A-max / V-max / SST ... lol they got so many names for what is basically the same stuff. That ammo shot pretty consistently UNDER 2moa out of my CSA VZ58. Exceptional hunting ammo.

I think the Ukraine has other concerns right now and their ammo production will need to ramp up for a war effort.

Yeah, I have a few boxes of Hornady SST tucked away. Good stuff, though a little less velocity than the Barnaul or GECO. I also have some MFS in zinc coated cases. It's as good as the Barnaul.

A couple of my oldies...

These 3 Izzy are refurb and superb. JP.

That's about as good as it gets. It was likely issued, saw limited to no use (bolt head is mint), and looks non-refurbished. Nice find. Hang on to that one.

Sold as non-issued, numbers matching, years ago, but who really knows I guess. Bolt head is indeed mint. I’ll never fire it.

Well, Chinese and Russian love in one get together. The Chinese bolt carrier is ugly in it's original form but I read on sksforum in the US that a 15 min hand polish does a very nice job, so had to do it.

where's all the Yugos?

been thinking about pulling the trigger on one but keep getting distracted by ammo purchases LOL

I don't need a $400 grenade luncher, lol. There are many around but most are not exactly in great condition. Even in the current market, they did not increase in value since the last batch was imported. The previous batch sold by Marstar was nice but not cheap either.

Hard not to like the metal ventilated handguard.

I just wanted to show that a Chinese SKS can easily be transformed into a super nice gun with the small mods I did - Russian stock, polished bolt carrier and ventilated hand guard. I put some tung oil on it as well.

I like the darker wood on the Russians but it gets tiring after some time. I almost want to refinish it, lol sorry.

The Yugo stocks are like the Norinco stocks, butt ugly, the military stocks on the Chinese look much nicer.

If I would spend 800 or 900 on the yugo SKS or 1,000 on a SKS-D, my eyes would probably get caught up in those ugly stocks.

What is cheap or what was cheap (not anymore) is perceived as bad. By guys who know very little about real stuff and are buried in their small mind world. Look on US websites. SKS's are getting expensive and are well regarded. Choosing between SKS and AR15 as surviving mean in apocalyptic world I would not even think to choose ar15.

1951 Russian Refurb bought for $280. Redid the stock and bedded the receiver with JB Weld. It had horrible slop before doing so, but it shoots pretty damn good now!

Question,

Friend has a letter (sino-soviet) type 56 SKS /26\. (all matching except mag)

Is it worth more or nobody cares about that.
