have a bunch of S&B 22 hornet ammo that i decided to start using up. once i got it roughly zeroed and started shooting "for keeps" my three groups (of 3 shots) were 1", .93", and .68". this is at 95 yards (measured) shooting from the rail of my porch siting on a stool with stacked up couch cushions for a rest.

one of the rationals for reloading is that your ammo will perfectly fit the chamber of your rifle. well, shooting hornet ammo in a k-hornet chamber is far from a perfect fit.

why reload?

22k hornet

Have a 22k hornet Ruger #3 and when it was just a regular Hornet found that 12.4 gr. w296 and the 40 gr V-max gave me groups under an inch consistantly at 100 yds.
After it became a K-Hornet I loaded up 200 new cases with this same load to just fire form them at the range. . Fired all 200 off over the afternoon with the best 10 shot group going at 0.90 inch and several 5 shot groups at 0.60 inch. Just ran a dry patch through it every 25-30 rounds. Never would have guessed the fireform loads would prove accurate too....Velocity was just over 2850 fps.

As a K hornet with 14.0 gr W296 and the 40 gr V max I got 3265 fps 3 shots avg./100 yds...0.48 inch was the best group and usually can get it to shoot about 3/4 inch consistantly........dont' have any 22 hornet in Sellior and Belliot (sp) so thats why I reload it..

Hope you have a large supply!!

The whole point of a K-Hornet is to fireform the cases so that the powder capacity is increased, and higher velocity ammunition can be loaded.
Usually "improving" a cartridge doesn't change accuracy, just allows higher velocity.

Actually with the k-hornet the biggest gain is usually in accuracy and case life--velocity increase is negligable. The case headspaces on the rim in the standard variety and on the shoulder on the K. In the standard version accuracy can be hard to come by and case life is often quite short.

i will have to test my reloads of the k-hornet, they are usually 1.5-2.5" (typically 2 shots almost touching, plus a flyer) at 220 meters (according to my gps), never shot them closer than that.

next thing to try is CCI 500 primers.
