I am satisfied with the 870 express that I own in that it is a lot of great gun for the money. I would however love to see better bluing on the steel as mine is a rust pig and I would love to see a tang safety. Otherwise it kicks ass. I would however be just about as happy with a mossberg 590, but they are pricier in general than a regular express.

To the best of my knowledge,Remington is the stand alone left-hand pump shotgun maker currently and there are even aftermarket lefty barrels available from Hastings such as my 24" cantilevered and fully rifled tube for deer hunting or their "Wadlock" barrels in various lengths.We lefties finally got someone to hear our pleas for more lefty offerings.My 2 Rem.870's are the "express deer" that came with a 20" rifled barrel and open sights,and the 870 express with a laminate stock and 28" smooth bore with a vent rib and mod. Rem choke.Things are getting better for us portsiders.

Of course the BPS and Ithica 37 are ambidextrous!
No problems with fit or finish on my 870 Express and the action is as smooth as silk......but it is a Marine Magnum.
Actually, let me be the first to tell you that the MM isn't an Express.
You can tell because it didn't blow up in your face on the very first shot, disfiguring you for life and giving you syphilis, like EVERY SINGLE Express does to its owners...
+1 on the MM, though. Love mine.
