Hk SL8

Is anyone planning on importing these? Wishing I would have picked one up when it was advertised on various sites.

Is/was a used one on the EE, buy what you can while it is available, prices only going up on everything as demand is way higher than supply and I don't see that changing.

I am intrigued by this - I had my heart set on an X95 and am waiting patiently for one to be available but in the meantime I have read up on this. One of the "features" that really appeals to me is the infrequency of cleaning - think H&K said every 15,000 rounds. I also heard it is more accurate than the X95. I don't know if the SL8 is actually a 5.56 that is stamped as a .223 for export regulatory compliance, but it is also $600 or so less (at least currently listed on some vendor websites) than the X95. Would be curious to hear some real experience CGN owners comparing and contrasting the two. Sure, it would be nice to get both (if they are ever available)...if you could pick one between these two which one would you pick? Low on my priority list is modifications, so it doesn't matter to me about third party upgrades, etc. I use most of my guns stock anyways and add an optic, grip, etc.

I agree, SL8 would be my pick if I could only pick one. It's hella accurate and there are a few interesting mods available, the Spuhr magwell for stanag mags is a very interesting one. Downside to the SL8 is it is very front end weighted due to the very heavy barrel. X95 is a little easier to throw around, but accuracy is not as good and the ergos take some getting used to.

I have heard the SL8 magazines are really expensive. Not sure if those are the factory mags or third party mags. Are there any mag well adapters that allow you to use some more affordable, common mags? Or is the whole design proprietary?

It seems the SL8 is pretty hard to find. I wonder whether, as another poster had indicated, whether production is reduced - maybe as a result of uncertain times in the political and legislative space. Does anyone know who the main distributor is for these in Canada?

Does anyone know if these SL8s are actually 5.56 NATO, that due to export regulations, etc., are stamped as .223? The exclusively 5.56 versions I have seen are restricted with short barrels.

Yes, the manual says, 223 Rem
Side of rifle marked Kal 223 Rem
When you take apart the butt stock trigger group area is marked Kal 5.56 x 45
No Caiberl marking on the barrel that I could see

Thank you very much for this information. It is very encouraging.
