So I finally decided to get a rifle built after a few years off of doing that.
I bought a really nice Remington BDL detach mag, with great wood in 300 winchester.
Getting a 1-8 Twist #2 conture Ron Smith Barrel Finished at 25"
Chambered in 270 Weatherby, and reamed for 170GR EOL Bergers
Ken at Gray Wolf Customs, is going to do the smith work.
Nice hot blue the barrel to match the receiver,
Throw a Triggertec trigger in it and bed the action.
I have always been a big fan of BDL rifles, but I have never had one in a chambering that I like.
The stock fits me like a glove, and I am not a open sight fan on most of my main hunting rifles so the new barrel will have no sights.
So now I will get the rifle I want with the chambering that I want.
Fairly excited.
I will update the thread once it starts going, and show some pictures of before and after.

I was at Ron Smiths yesterday and picked-up my barrel he made for me. It's a 27" stainless, 1-19" to 1-10" gain twist, number 2 contour, chambered for the 257 Weatherby Magnum.
Where do you get your load data for a 170 grain bullet?
Is your Smith barrel a stainless or crome-moly?

How’s he doing? Is his son now doing the majority of the work there?

Nice old fella, he took the time to give me a tour of his shop and such. He’s really getting up there in his years now, curious if he still gets out to the machines.

This is my second trip to his shop in about 2.5 months. He had just completed 10 barrels for clients, two chrome-moly and the remainder stainless steel. Mr. Smith is doing quite well for an 86 year old. I as well had a shop tour of all his barrel making machines, lathes, rods, titanium carbide cutters, etc. Those are really old machines in his shop, and a person definitely goes back in time. Mr. Smith can get around with ease, considering his age, however, like me, we both had to talk loud so we can hear each other. No, the machines were not operating, we are both hard of hearing. LOL!!!. The first thing I noticed walking in the front door of his shop is that big antlered mule deer buck, covered in black soot and a straw hat on-top if it's head.

His son, Gerald, does help him from time to time, however Gerald was preparing for spring seeding on the farm. I met him 2.5 months ago, about my age 63 or 64, and he was busy hauling grain. Mr. Smith is one of the trail-blazers in the barrel making in Canada, and still put's out an excellent product. Of course I quizzed him lots on his barrel making. Most are stainless steel, cut rifle and gain-twist. Feed-back from shooters and hunters he received on gain-twist is: lower pressure, higher velocity and superb accuracy.

Locals should make a special trip to visit Mr. Smith, with advanced notice, to witness a bit of Canadian history and to own a great product. I know I will be returning, again.

Ron does not keep his tongue tucked away in his pocket, he enjoys visiting. He also received three telephone calls while I was there, business is still healthy. He informed me that all of his steel arrives from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 20 foot lengths.
Just a little encouragement about the Ron Smith barrel. The best 5 shot group I viewed was from a Smith barrel, chambered in a 7mm Dakota. The group was so tight it appeared to only look like one shot from a 30 caliber.

When I was gathering parts for my 275RIGBY, there was a delay on the CM bbl I was getting out of the states and the bbl maker could not give a firm delivery date. The gunmaker here in Canada that was building my rifle was pressing the need for the bbl soon so suggested Ron Smith as he is one of the very few here that will make a CM bbl. The gunmaker had the bbl in about a month. Very pleased.
