Best pistol to date?

I have two CZ 9mm Tactical Sport pistols and can honestly say that after several thousand handloaded rounds fired I have never had a single FTF or FTE. I love my 1911s and also own several Glocks but for outright reliability the CZs can't be beat. They aren't cheap but they are certainly worth the money.

just out curiosity what makes your czs more reliable than the glocks you own?

The best pistol to date is the one that puts out easiest :p

But seriously, it'll be different for everyone. For me specifically, it's the Beretta 92FS. Everything comes together with it, grip size and angle, beavertail location, two-handed grip feel, sights, heft, low slide mass, SA trigger feel, etc.

I've had M&P, 1911, Glock, and a few .22's in the past (still have a Glock and S&W 22) but the Beretta just fits and feels best to me so I tend to shoot it best. All it needs is a D-spring and some aggressive grips.

For me I would have to go with the Tanfoglio aussy length stock 2 xtreme, it the best feeling, best trigger and most accurate firearm in my collection, 2nd place is pretty much a 3 way tie with cz shadow 2, beretta m9a3 and beretta elite 1a, moving into the polymer striker world, hands down it is the beretta apex with the sig 320 a close second.

Do you like DA/SA ? SAO ? what calibre are you looking to shoot? Are you a steel gun guy? Polymer? Striker fired? Is this a carry gun /target pistol etc?

Honestly regardless of your answer I'd look at the new CZ Tactical Sport 2 which is coming soon. In several different models. I know I will be.

Already stated - The one you train with; and

The one in my hands at that moment. Different pistols have different roles.

I would add a third intangible. The one that fits. Years ago I ran the tech inspection station for an IPSC match and got to handle and fire all the top handguns. The H&K 45 was memorable as being just so fecking massive, and probably unnecessarily big. The CZs and Brownings had the right curves for the heel of my hand. The 1911s just didn't do much for me, the single stacks felt 'slabish' (if that's a word) and the double stacks a bit too large to get my hand behind. The Berettas, were meh, nothing memorable.

I shot 1911 and Hi Standard target 22's I had for years a 1911 with metal spacers about 3/16" thick under the factory grip panels and really like them. Sold it, never got more, but the one I am shooting now has thick G10 grips.
Most used S-W model 19-2 4 in. 9 mm, Jericho single action, Have a 92S, Don't shoot it much.
Any one that shoots into the 10 ring.
The best?? I suppose Colt Pythons, or a 3 in S-W Lew Horton 686 custom
Always went back to the 19 smith , A Colt model 357 4 in was better, But I flipped it.

From a pure reliability point of view I don't think the CZs are any better than the Glocks but when I combine the ergonomics of the CZs with their dependability they just aren't in the same class as the Glocks. I'm 6'1" and weigh 210 ilbs. so the carry weight of the all steel CZs doesn't bother me and it really reduces recoil. Combine that with a very clean breaking 2 lb. trigger compared to the mushy Glock 3 1/2-5 lb. trigger and there is no comparison. Mind you the CZ is also twice the cost of the Glock so I guess it should be lot better but the OP's question was "Best pistol to date?", not "Best (insert dollar value here) pistol to date?"

All steel CZs and their clones; Tanfoglio, Spinx, Jericho, and yes, Norinco NZ85, I have shot them all, and own a .40 Jerico and a 9mm NZ85. Ergonomics and triggers in all of them are exceptional. I have also shot a bunch of Glocks, and they do work, they are (surprisingly) accurate, but they just don't fit me; single, double, big, small, they don't fit me. In competition, I have out shot Glocks, and Glocks have outshot me. They are all good, but best? That is subjective; what I have is best for me for the type of shooting I do at this point in my life.

I'd be reluctant to call anything "the best". However, in my personal experience the three that come to mind are the original SIG P226, Walther PPQ, and my personal favorite the Walther P99 (heavy bias).

For me it's a combination of feel, accuracy, reliability, trigger, and overall look. Glocks and some of the FNs don't feel right in my hand despite checking all the other boxes. I would like actual range time with the HKSFP9 because I think it is something I would consider putting on my list - never handled one I didn't like. Honorable mention goes to the SIG 365: got to shoot one extensively during my time in the US this past year - even shot some ASI matches with it. Very sweet little gun.

At the end of the day, to each their own! Comes down to whatever goes bang and lets the shooter make solid hits.
