Turkey Gun patterning Comparison

Cant believe how slow that 20ga load is. I use kent fast lead 3" 1.25oz #5 at 1300fps and it patterns very well. Id love to try that new tss #9 shot in 410 on turkeys but its not legal here in ontario for turkeys. Maybe i can use it for woodies and teal

I agree on the speed of the long beard 20 ga loads. They kill turkeys dead though.

Would love to try those #9's as well, but I am in the same predicament as you. #9 are not legal in Quebec yet...

Imagine a 3/4oz tss #9 28ga load! Stuff dreams are made of right there. Still not legal for turkey here but maybe someday. But im still hoping for a rimfire season to

I am quite amazed BC allows rimfire.
I remember in the 1990s an American hunting magazine had a big write up on how often American turkey hunters were shooting each other with centerfire rifles during turkey season. Even the pedestrian 22 Hornet.

I think most that still allow centerfire overlap with deer rifle seasons in the fall if i remember what my buddy told me right. He uses a 25/20 and a 17mach2.

Ive seen ppl bounce arrows across fields and rake birds with 00buck. Safety is in the hunter not the weapon
Coyote hunters are still using centerfire rifles down here during the turkey season and archery deer season so i dont see how a rimfire is any more dangerous.

Yes. Complete agreement here.
The US Midwest example I quoted was thier own unsafe experiences. Human stupidity is the root of some subsequent laws.

Would be fun to try to crack one in the head with a 17mach2 though. Until its legal ill just stick with my shotguns. Going with 20ga this weekend. Using kent fastlead #5. 1.25oz 3" im easily good out to 40 yards

This is the one hunting thing Quebec and Ontario have over most of the western regions.
A generous turkey season....yum yum yum.
Plus your turkeyslayer by merely switching chokes and shells gets you southern venison, ruffed grouse on the side too.
That's alot of fresh meat with just one shotgun.

Edit: Is Peeley Island pheasant hunt still a thing? Or what with Wu Flu brybenn??

MNR Ontario says only 20, 12, 10 ga for turkeys. Rats.

MNRF is so behind the times. We only recently were granted permission to use #7’s and for years the mag blends were being dangled in our faces. Now tss is all the rage and guys down south and smacking gobblers dead with 410 shells loaded with #9’s and smaller.

The Pelee Island hunt was cancelled last year due to COVID. Although nothing has been announced yet, it may very well be cancelled this year as well. And this year, they are not issuing refunds if its cancelled.

I believe the last falls hunt was canceled for covid but looks like 2021 is a go at this point. I haven’t been to the island for almost 2 years but I’m on the ferry at this very moment.
