How to pull hair from bear

Ok, I looked it up. I was not aware it is considered a delicacy in Asian (Chinese) cuisine. I have no idea how to de-hair it, but scalding makes sense like pigs feet.

Seems like they are worth a lot of money and are a source of poaching too in some areas.

Lots of hinese poachers out there. No secret to it that they sell the feet and gall bladders to poeple of their home country. They ship/smuggle it from the west coast here most commonly.

They are paid by weight so if you leave the skin on the paw it is more weight and hence the profits are higher.

It is indeed bad around here as well, I’ve found many bears over the years with nothing touched other than paws, a hole or the entire guts pulled out dumped right on the side of the road half the time

I cannot believe how stupid most of the comment have been. Right on my desk, I have a cook book written by a Caucasian hunter. One recipe is for bear paw. Yes, bear paw. I usually harvest 2 bears a year. If some of you not stupid enough, you can count your fat fingers to 8. We will have 8 bear paws. It is beneficial to find way to fully utilize them. I know how to scape the pig with boiled water. I witnessed such scaling many time in our village where I grew up. but bear hairs are so deep rooted, unlike the pig hairs.
Anyone in my circle knows that I am the person who stands against randomly accusing others of racists. However, some of the folks here did not hide their racist true color well.
BTW, what forum are we in? If you ask for a question of utilizing animal part, they will tell all the stories of poaching and selling.

I’d be careful calling a person a racist. That is a powerful word and it implies that the person has a hatred for a given race and actively promotes violence towards them. That word is thrown around much to easily these days and often is not challenged.

To say there is maybe some cultural ignorance going on here is fair. I eat pork and have eaten deer tongue, caul fat, testicles, heart and liver. Fair to say I utilize lots of the animals I kill and partake in the consumption of animals that other cultures take a pass on. Whatever....who cares.

Now, I will say this, objecting to things that other cultures find normal, but tend to cause suffering or are morally abhorrent (like the use of endangered animal parts in “traditional” Chinese medicine that has no basis in science and treats erectile disfunction, or the terrible treatment of women in SOME Muslim religious sects) is not racist. I have as much right to think this is repugnant as the next guy. I can’t imagine that eating the nasty tough skin on a bears paw could ever be delicious and to argue you are utilizing the entire animal is dubious IMO, however, if it’s legally harvested, fill your boots. If you are selling it into what appears to be a strange lucrative black market....well, sorry, buh bye.

You are contradicting yourself within your own comments. You can eat whatever you want, because who cares. You then doubt another person's choice, because you care about other people's choices might be unwise, unscientific, barbaric.
Why not simply stay quiet to protect your ignorance?

P.S.. I did receive a PM from a fine gentleman in Ontario. It was around 2:30-3am in Ontario time. He shared his real experience with plucking the bear paws and shared the photo of the final outcome. I know I will do the same thing to clean the bear paws this year.

Read my post again carefully

I'd have liked to see the bear paw recipe but after reading Elkers latest posts I think I'll just put him/her/it on ignore and enjoy the rest of my day!

my friends from Ghana consume goat with the skin on. they singe the hair off with a torch and then consume the skin when they cook it,. i have tried the food, never found any goat hairs. taste was good. try using a torch to burn it off. also post the recipe.

goat is done that way in many countries. i ve seen that done over an open fire.

Imo, If it would be traditional in the OP's "circle" as he calls it to eat bear paw, then one could assume there is a traditional way to prepare and cook it but he doesn't know how to do it.

So, I call BS here. Looks to me like someone wants to sell bear parts.

Hey OP whats the name of the cook book? id like to see the recipe.

the book is this, sorry the image is too large to embed in the post, but you can click the link to get the picture. the book's name is "49 North Cook's Wild". I have made rabbit dish with one recipe from it. all family love it!
