Historys Guns: Do You Feel Lucky?

:)Brings back a lot of memories. A beginning/starting point for me was when I first got into handgun shooting and reloading. I became a follower of a gentleman who was very instrumental in bringing the 44 Mag to a reality. Elmer Keith. I wrote him on a few occasions, asking for his info, input and experiences on a wide variety of firearms related issues and I still have a few of his reply letters, in addition to a number of his books. In the early 70's, I wrote him and made arrangements to drop in and visit at his home in Salmon Idaho. Spent a very enjoyable day with him and would venture to say, the most memorable day in my years of shooting, hunting and other related activities:d:d. My all time favorite gun writer. My avatar is a photo I took of him, standing by my truck and camper as I was preparing to head home.
Then, later, came Dirty Harry. When the film hit theatres locally, four of us from our F&G Club went to see it;) and weren't disappointed.
I've had a wide variety of 44's over the years. A few Ruger single actions and I still have an old Ruger flattop with Ruger stag horn grips. And, there've been quite a selection of S&W 29's and in all barrel lengths. Still have a 4", wearing a set of S&W factory ivory grips that were originally on another S&W N-frame. A 5" nickel model 27 if I remember correctly.
 
When I was buying my first 44 magnum (S&W Model 629) the gunshop owner (who I knew) said "I love it when those Dirty Harry movies come out. I always sell another six 44 magnums".

Maybe one day I'll get one of these. Not a fan of the "modern" big caliber handguns (Desert Eagle etc.).
 
Feel Lucky? I do, lucky to own two S&W M29 44 Magnums. . A 6 1/2" wearing Rosewood Cokes and a 4" with Walnut Targets. Both are a pleasure to shoot.
