6mm CM

That is true but the other part of the equation is how far you have to seat out to meet the lands.

I was playing with a factory Remington 700 VLS 243 Winchester 9.125T this spring. 105 Lapuas and the 107 Sierras touched the lands at ~2.85". The 105 Bergers at ~2.87". I loaded 44.5-46 gr H4831SC to 2.83" AOL at 3050 fps, 26" barrel. All the bullets shot well. Load density was perfect.
Regarding the 243 Winchester? I wasn't looking for problems. And I didn't find any.

I find the slightly faster twist Remington barrels are quite a good .243 platform with the 105's for sure. Mine was a plain old SPS stainless that shot beautiful with the Bergers loaded out to touch the lands. That gun had a 24" barrel as well and I ended up putting it in a youth stock and giving it to my father-in-law (all of 5'5"). I know 8 and 7-twist are all the rage now but 9-twist Rugers and 9.125-twist Remington guns are a joy in .243.

I agree. I have two 6mm 7.5 twist Bartlien barrels sitting here now for two years. My rebarrel plans get scrapped when I shoot the Remington 700 243’s. Couldn’t be improved upon. No need for shooting the 115’s either. 105’s have been more accurate generally.

Interesting cartridge for sure. Super saturated space. All compare to the plain Jane 243 Win

Ive got a bunch of 6xc brass, dies and Rempel has the reamer too.

Like I was saying I was in the market for a weatherby mark 5 weathermark 6 creed until they stopped making them. Now back with a 7.5 T 243 Winchester chambering I should explore. Lots of value in these new Weatherbys from what I can tell.

To me the 6mm Creedmoor is an excellent option for a 6mm cartridge for target shooting or hunting, imho is better designed cartridge than the 243 which in itself is a great cartridge, but again with all the newer modern cartridges you have to want to utilize their ability and what they are chambered for......and if you have no desire to shoot heavy for caliber high bc bullets then it doesn't really matter pick one and be happy, but I would pick the new designed cartridge every time.

300 PRC over the 300 win mag, 6.5 PRC over the 6.5 Rem Mag, 6.5 RPM over the 264 Win Mag, 6mm Creedmoor over the 243 Win.

How well are all those newly designed WSM/WSSM/SAUM/RCM/NOSLER and the host of others taking off? Lol
Better get the 6 and 6.5 Lapua cartridges as they are even better then the CM cartridges if you want the newest bestest.

Did I mention any of those cartridges ? Nope, 7!SAUM maybe worth looking at but 280 AI has pretty much got that covered

Oh boy, I’m sure I’ll get all kinds of flamed for this, but here it goes: I wouldn’t say that 6cm and 243win shoot the same bullets. I’d say they shoot the same diameter bullets, and in some (many) cases are capable of shooting the exact same bullets. But in factory form what they are capable of shooting best is different. Don’t believe me? I guess ask Hornady then. Why do they offer a 6mm 80gr gmx and a 90gr gmx. The 90 has a much better bc, it also says minimum of 1 in 8 twist required. How about the 90gr eldx and the 103gr eldx, same story. Based on that I would say they do, or are designed to, shoot different bullets. Or perhaps different bullets are designed to be fired from each cartridge? I know I know, it doesn’t say anywhere on the box of projectiles when you purchase them that they MUST ONLY be loaded in xyz cartridge, but you can see the implications here. Also, see factory loaded ammo for each cartridge, kinda reinforces what I’m saying here.

I like both cartridges (have owned both), makes sense, they’re very similar. But 243 does tap out with heavy long bullets, due to most factory twist rates. Granted, Ruger and garbageton do have decent factory twist rates, savage is okay and browning / Winchester are terrible. So for most factory rifles the 6cm is going to do better with (as in stabilizing) long heavy high bc bullets than 243win.

Nothing wrong with a custom fast twist 243win barrel either, evens the playing field in terms of bullet stabilization. Cartridge oal and max magazine length can become an issue with some actions though. Could always AI the 243 for a little extra power room.

Actually the 6.5x47 lapua was around before the creedmoor
