Last day before I had to go back to work, and damn my knee was sore...

Finally pulled myself out of bed, grabbed my pack and headed for the hills.

A few hours later, I was rewarded with this blacktail:

(Sorry about the blood...)

Was it taken anywhere near that magical line that makes Blacktails - Mule deer or Mule deer - blacktails? A friend of mine used to hunt an area just out of Hope that produced similar deer. Though to us, they usually looked liked beauty Blacktails, the record boys disagreed.

Beautiful Buck regardless!

The "record guys" draw an arbitrary line. So 100 yards on either side youare hunting eithe rmule deer or blacktails, Seems pretty unscientific to me.:p

The truth is, the only way to tell for sure if something has mule deer genetics is by DNA testing. Since I don't care abotu the record book, and dont' have a DNA lab handy, I won't bother with it. :)

Great deer, and what better way to get it than hiking through some of the most beautiful land in BC? Got almost a week to wander and snowmobile up in the pemberton area right after christmas - can't wait!

The current world record typical is 133 if its a Sitka Blacktail, you may be close to a world record:eek:

Clarke's deer would be a Columbia Blacktail. The Sitka's have more white colour, are a bit smaller and are located more up in Alaska and on the Charlottes. And Texada island too. But I think they were introduced there..

Yep like I said on another thread that is one dandy buck Gate..

Whats the current world record Columbia Blacktail? Are they a bigger species then the Sitka?

Cheers!!
