Need rifle suggestion/advice

OP .... I'm not sure why folks continue to want a rifle with open sights, esp for a rifle that will be their main hunting rifle.

A good scope in good mounts is a FAR better aiming system. Checks off way more boxes.

If you're worried about having a back-up system, buy QD mounts and a spare scope.

It's more more of a back-up, as I do intend to mount a scope. A good QD mount and a spare scope is still more expensive than open sights at the end.

I also really just appreciate shooting with open sight to practice.

I can potentially get a rifle without open sight and get it installed afterward, as that give me more option of rifle to choose from.

I have a couple in the safe, set up with Weaver Pivot mounts. Any experience with them, and if so, what's your opinion of them as an option??

I've heard the trigger is like 6lbs pull, not a chance in hell!

I went to the range today to try various 308 bullets. I'm using the open sights for now and experimenting at 50 yards to start out. 150 grain Hornady interlocks did the best by far. My 3 shot group measured .331 inch. I propelled them with 46 grains of Varget.

I haven't used them but it is my impression (as per interweb chatter) that they work well.

I use Weaver R&B a lot. If I need a back-up, I would just have another scope set-up & sighted in fitted to the Weaver rings already on the rifle. Take one scope off, put nuther scope on.

My first experience with Weaver Pivot mounts was when Dad passed on and I received his Husqvarna model 4000 Light Weight in 30-06. That's what he'd used on it. Had to make sure the base seating area was clean but other than that, repeated pivots on & off never seemed to affect the accuracy on paper. Following that,:) I decided to use the same system on a couple of others in the safe. So far,;) no issues.

I know an old thread. If you are looking to a backup to your scope and are thinking iron sights why not a small red dot for back up? Cheaper than getting irons and more selection than irons plus just for the most part better than irons.

Good vid on the subject.

The tikka battue is an awesome rifle!! I have a couple friends with them in 308 and 30-06 and they are real handy!
