lol, I've got the bedding job completed & documented. Now, I just gotta do the forend stiffening. I've got to go to work (the paying kind) and get one more day in chasing a WT buck on Wednesday. After that, it's down to business. Hand tools like small files are needed, but get yourself a Dremmel for the bedding job. I'll get back at you. :)

Here's my latest creation. I used CT truck bed coating for a base, then Kyrlon camo, and finally truck bed coating for the speckled look. It turned out better than I thought it would.

For bedding, I decided to try JB Weld and Pam this time and was quite surprised at how well Pam worked. It's definitely my go-to release agent from now on.

Well ........ Never say never! I ordered a Stevens in .223 this week from SIR.

Gonna see what all the fuss is about. I have a bunch of reloading components here for a .223, so I may as well use it up. ;)

You got the one with the Simmons scope, right? Must have sold the Kimber. :pirate:

What an adventure!

Seriously, though, you are going to be pleasantly surprised! :)

WTF SuperCub, did Steven's start to make pump actions?:p

I've got a 200 in .223 and I love it. I put a 5X15X40 Bushnell Legend on it with a Harris bipod and it's lots of fun at the range. I bought the Krylon OD Green paint, but I have yet to get a chance to work on it yet.

Good shooting! :)

Wouldn't thye metal on the rifle affect the compass performance?

I hardly use a compass anymore. Maybe I will duct tape a GPS unit to the stock of my 300WSM.:p

I'm not sure that would "enhance" the look of the rifle though gatehouse. lol.

They are currently going for $299.99 at SIR. My buddy just ordered on last week, when he gets it delivered and I get to play with it for a bit I may order one for myself.

Some nice lookin' guns in this thread, good job boys. If I end up with one it'll definitely be getting sprayed.

Here's mine,

she's all ready to go to the range. Glass bedded and good hunting trigger, I would guess at 3.5#. I had planned to work on the forend to stiffen it, but i'm guessinf they change the stock, seems stiffer now. I may have some time to go this afternoon, i'll post pics of groups when available...

range report

Guys,

back from the range, it was pretty cold and some winds but no that bad... Stevens 200 .223 glass bedded, bushnell 3200 3x9x40, burris z-rings. Trigger a bit heavy for target work at about 3.5# and some over travel. Also, I only had a 9-13'' bipod instead of the 6'' i'm used to at the range and bags for the rear instead of bunny ears. Think I could shrink this with my usual setup.

here are the results, I cleaned the barrel lightly before shooting, then 3 shots to sight in:

1st group, 45 gr winchester white box, 5 shots, 100 yards

2nd group 55 gr Hornady V-Max, 5 shots 100 yards

200 yards, 55 gr V-max, great horizontal but vertical might be due to rear...

69 gr federal gold medal, 200 yards, about 1 1/4'' nice!

I did shoot a few more groups at 100 about 1 inch but with 2 touching and 1 flyer. I believe to be my mistakes...

All in all, great rifle, I had some higher hope for grouping, but with my setup this can be improved i'm sure next time, some more trigger work might also be helpful as well probably as a decent pad, which I think I might have 1 laying around...

This is my Stevens200 in .243 with a Tasco Mildot 2.5X10X40mm over Millet rings.Took two deer with it at over 300yds each this year. Not too bad of a paint job for a first timer but I like it. Will be using it for yotes and jacks this winter also.

This group really started to pull together for you. Too bad the weather was a be-yotch. I bet you'll have no prob dupicating (if not surpassing) this in more favorable conditions. Way to go!
