Hi Guys,
Had a chance to go to Maine this fall hunting with a friend of mine from down there , He got a cottage close to me here in the Corner Brook area. Never hunted them before , but know has one under my belt. thought
I was going to strike out , they wasn't moving well at all , but to no avail I got my first Buck , He field dressed at 197 lbs. on nov 19 2007, He had 8 points one brow tine broken off. his antlers wasn't very heavy , but boy did he have battle scares , some points broken ( pieces broken out) and his neck was full of cuts and bruises. had a lot of white on his face guess he was getting past his prime. Wish I new how to post pic's.

gun ,caliber ,glass?

Nice looking buck! Congratulations...

What kind of rifle/cal./glass?

weatherby mark iv, 338 win mag, leupold vari x iii ,4.5x14 . This is not my own rifle ,my friend owns it. I thought it was a little heavy for deer , but it was the rifle I shot the best out of his rifles. The guy with the thumbs up is my guide from maine, he was the best.

scope

How'd that scope work out in the bush for you? Or were you hunting clear cuts?

as I said that was not my own rifle, the scope had a heavy duplex as well , the guy used it for long range on deer, would not be my choice . My deer was taken at 150 yards , much farther than that the cross hairs would have covered up the vital zone.
When I go again I will use my own rifles, A Sako Classic in 30-06 , she wears a leopould 2.5x8 and shoots 165 grain partitions in 3/4 inch moa. for woods hunting I will use my marlin 1895 45-70 with my own cast ,from the RCBS mould 405, that marlin will make one big hole at 100 yards with 47 grains of reloader 7.

I believe that! Nice deer and photo, although for my taste the guns you mentioned are bit on the heavy side. I like to hunt as light as possible means 7mm or 6.5. I simply do not like to carry these big irons:)
