300 winchester magnum or 300 wsm?

Get the 300 Winchester Long Mag, finding ammo is a thing, and it has much better selection and availability than the WSM. Plus, it is more powerful.

For me it boils down to platform. If I want something as compact and lightweight as possible, maybe the WSM. But in general, WM, just because the "cheap" ammo is cheaper and more plentiful than WSM around here and also I prefer a bit larger rifle for a .30-cal Magnum since they are both at my recoil limit (as in, 20 rounds off a bench without flinching).

I agree. The 300 H&H is a favorite. Not only a bit more efficient on powder it slips through the gun like hot knife through butter. I reload for both my 300 H&H and 300 WM and what we've been told to believe over the years is bs as the WM is not superior to the H&H. The bs was to help sell rifles by claiming the WM was more powerful and held more powder. I've measured them both and they're same capacity and can be loaded to replicate each other. But the 300 WM is easier to find store bought ammo.

I was up in the air between either or. I had the gun in mind, and ended up buying the 300 win mag over the 300wsm since the 300 win mag was about $400 cheaper in the same rifle.

If I had to choose between those two, I would simply go hang myself. A short, fat turkey or a tall turkey with no neck; what a choice. The 300 PRC looks to be every bit as good as the 30 Newton which it copies.

I used both for many years. I'd for get about the which 300 and go with the best fitting rifle for the best deal you find. Comfort, quality, and accuracy is more important than 5% or 10% more speed or energy.
