Hello
I just got my Hornady L&L ezject progressive press and I'm looking for a few shellplate.

My buddy has a bunch of shellplate for his older Hornady press, wire feed??.
Just wondering if his shellplate will fit my press?
If not,can they be modified to fit?

Thanks

Brian

No.
Tried to get a machine shop to machine out the groove for the EZject and they said they did not want to risk their endmills.
Said metal too hard, believe or not! I think they just did not want to do the CNC setup and programming for such a small job.
I know when I'm not wanted. Just buy the new shell plates.
Unless you have a real friend with the equipment.

This is what's involved.

Old wire version 38spl vs newer Ez-ject 38spl.

As you can see, the groove dimensions can change depending on case base dimensions.

Actually that machine shop was being very prudent with their assessment of a relative easy piece to purchase instead of machining. Those shell plates are very hard & a carbide endmill at double the price of a shell holder is the only cutter that would touch a shell plate ( and one might not even complete the job). I have both a mill machine & a lathe and when I tried to mod a couple of Dillon 650 shell plates for a couple of obsolete cartridges, I had to use a Dremmel grinder to even come close to removing some metal...just ordinary High speed steel endmills would only polish the shell plate edges a bit
