So I’m looking at either one of these as a semi auto 7.62x39 NR

WS MCR in 7.62x39
Takes legal 10 round pistol mags
Built off an AR180B platform
Limited user feedback as they are relatively new

M+M M10x z
AK mags (5 round capacity)
Unique design features
Hoping that the new models addresses earlier weaknesses





They are close in price. I have mags for both. Does anyone have any real user feedback on either to help facilitate the discussion.

Given the ban(s). I’ve had to store my CMMG Mk47 (7.62x39 AK mags). And before that my Norinco AK56.
I’m not a pure AR180B convert since I got the WK180C. So looking for a NR replacement...

SKSD and Type 81’s aren’t that much of an interest at this point.

I’ve been looking at this however with the issues I had with the WK180C initially I’m somewhat doubtful that a 7.62x39 version would be any better? Any range report for this? The MCR is reportedly better constructed though.

Both models have folding stock options (aftermarket for the MCR).

Two points: The M10X has horrendous reviews. Like, it doesn't work type reviews.

You keep implying that the WK180C and WS MCR are the same gun but with some updates. This is not the case. They are different guns although both variants of the AR180C.

I have not used the WS MCR, so can't really give a recommendation other than what I have seen in reviews. But from what I have seen in reviews, I would be on the side of the WS MCR.

Unfortunately I ended up with the WK180C version. The WS MSR has some additional tweaks, however I consider them the same variants of the same firearm. I would love an honest review for any MSR 7.62x39 users. They seem more available now. However do they break the same parts? Same failures?

The M10x (z) appears to be the more recent model available and appears to have addressed earlier design issues.

In both cases I think that they are temporary fixes to a bigger problem we all have.

So I understand that there have been some issues with the WK180C. I myself had several issues with mine initially.

That being said mine now sits at 10,000 rounds and is a trusted rifle.

The WS-MCR appears to have several updates over the WK180C, which in most areas seem to be improvements. Though in fairness I think the WK-180C once the cocking handle is reliable will be just as good.

The M10X, holy f***, every step of the way it's been a cluster

Hands down it has been the rifle I wanted to love so badly but it is an absolute mess
 
I believe that the WK/MSR rifles are fine. They need some “break in” period. However they were built around the 5.56/223

I’m generally curious about the 7.62x39 version. It’s a heavier round, increase in gas. We’re the necessary steps to chamber the rifle in 7.62x39 done? Anyone know if any essential parts were modified?

It appears that the M10x was designed specifically for the 7.62x39 from the start. The issues I’ve heard about weren’t very good at all. Maybe it was rushed to market?
 
I was asking the same question about the same two. Ended up going MCR because about every review of the M10x is it doesn’t like surplus ammo — and that was part of the point of the gun for me.

I like the MCR, no issues after a take down and cleaning. Cycles and feeds just fine. The only thing I don’t like is how much of a pain it is to take apart and clean compared com bloc designs ... and cleaning is required after surplus. The gas system is a pain to access.

If the M10x would reliably run surplus I might lean towards that but I haven’t tried it yet ... maybe someday.

I've used about 300 barnaul and 200 corrosive in mine so far. Barnaul isn't as hot as the surplus stuff, but both are pretty overgassed (~2 o'clock ejection pattern). You won't get burned from the gas block like on a wk, but the handguard gets really hot in a short amount of time and carbon still gets on your support hand. I usually shoot with a glove on. As far as reliability, pretty good so far. My MCR seems to like a lot of oil on the bolt carrier, and it runs pretty well. Sometimes on a stiff pistol mag, it doesn't have enough force to strip the first round off a pistol mag, but when my mags get used more I don't think that will be an issue anymore. It isn't rare that I get a light primer strike, as the surplus corrosive stuff has pretty hard primers compared to barnaul, but that might be because of my old AR 5.56 trigger spring. I've only had one malfunction where a surplus round didn't want to eject and just stayed in the chamber. I couldn't rack it out because the extractor couldn't grab it for some reason so I had to use a cleaning rod, and it ran fine after that. Its not too difficult to clean after shooting corrosive, but one thing to note is that you need a 1/4 socket wrench to disassemble the gas piston. I clean it 1-2 days after shooting and no issues there with rust. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you put an M-LOK grip on the handguard, the screws might be a bit too long and will hit the gas block when you try to take it off to clean the piston. I just shaved the screws down and seems good from there. Since the rifle is a bit overgassed, lots of things come loose. Make sure you locktite your pistol grip and buffer tube, as those come loose pretty often without it. Sorry for rambling but I hope this helps you out. I was really skeptical about buying an MCR since I've heard of all the WK problems, but I am very happy with my MCR right now. IIRC, the MCR originally had many issues, but models made after February of this year have resolved most if not all of those issues.

I am pretty satisfied with the build quality as there is a steel insert now. The finish is nice and the rifle doesnt feel cheap and clunky like the wk. Something i forgot to mention is that it is a bit front heavy. The barrel is a medium profile 7.62 and 18" so the left arm definitely feels it. Ive seen a bunch of wks at the range and I can confidently say the Mcr is a very good improvement
