Purchase from HIGGINSON POWDERS INC.

Great stuff
bought lotsa powders, surplus, over many years..
jesus, think its been about 30 years
I liked the old paper flyers with deals on bulk bullets.. it sure made shootin very cheep

You certainly identified the biggest con in EMT, being the lack of protection. That it doesn't offer you rewards isn't a negative so much as using the option with rewards adds that as a positive. Why would you use EMT instead? Once you've got trust in place (and obviously there are no trust issues with the dealer in question) it is just as fast and reliable, it doesn't cost higginson an approximate 3% haircut. As noted above retailers can play with that cost in their prices but it's actually a violation to do it in the method that was described, they cannot add fees because somebody chooses to pay with credit, they can really only discount an item for a different payment method. In order to effectively do that you would need to artificially inflate your prices across the board by 3%, which is obviously against the business approach that higginson has always taken.

I think we are on the same wavelength. But you lost me towards the end. I would suggest that their prices are already inflated by 3% to cover the CC fee they have on worst-case transactions. So offering a discount of 0.1-3% of a non-CC transaction to the customer shouldn't cut into their profit at all.

IMO they offer prices on some items that other dealers don't come close to. I would have to disagree with your assessment, but only the store would know. It's obviously ignorant and irresponsible to assume they wouldn't protect a margin, they have to stay in business and we all hope they do.

I've definitely seen the trend in this industry... to say the price isn't the CC price to motivate people to use EMT (and say CC will incur a 3% surcharge). I usually happily obliged, but given some of the big custom action and stock purchases I've made recently.. I've lost a lot in the way CC rewards.

Higginson's prices, however, are more than reasonable. When he gets powder it's VERY competitively priced. I have no issues paying via EMT to support this local family run business. Would be a shame to see them close shop.

Their shipping prices are very fair. They use UPS for powder and primers. 10,000 primers and a couple 8lbs of powder was about $45 to BC. Last year at this time mind you. But have ordered some lee stuff and UPS was cheaper than CP.

I went to place a bullet order this spring, copy pasted info & pricing from their site into order. The quote I got back was $10/box more than their website price. I did not complete the order.

Website is quote.
Powder - primer and overweight item cost more.
What is so hard to understand ? It cost what it cost to ship..this is not a dealer profit.
When you are not happy with the total..just do that..walk away. It’s done everyday for online purchase of all kind..but when it come to gun related items..folk just jump on CGN to make a post about it and complain..

Just observe your wife or girlfriend shopping..how many time they look at a posted price and turn away..be in a physical shop or online...this will enlighten a few here.

I have talked to a lady on the phone at Higginsons. That was some time ago. There once was a time if you ordered 24 lbs of powder it shipped free + hazmat fee though. Also got 8lbs in a cardboard box once.

Higginsons is one of the best - if not thee best - place to purchase gunpowder. They used to carry the WC735 surplus stuff that was the absolute best for duplicating 5.56 M193 ball rounds. That stuff has gone the way of the Dodo, but Higgy continues on with some excellent prices (compared to others out there).

Pretty easy to save a buck with Higginsons. They have the best Hodgdon/IMR powder, Hornady and Lee prices out there. They are pretty well picked clean right now though. Price increases due to new stock and slow updates to the site are part of the business for now. I think they are doing pretty damn well for what has always seemed to be a one man operation with some part time help.

I have been buying from Higginsons since they were Xelex explosives, Ammomart, and now Higginsons.
As a teenager [a long time ago] I bought thousands of rounds of 22 LR ammunition from him. Can't remember
the brand name, but it came in square boxes of 100 rounds, and was quite greasy. Good, accurate stuff.
Been buying powder from them half of forever, it seems. Thomas was a very interesting fellow, with whom I
had a very good relationship. He sometimes send powders for me to try and then report on. He and Andrew
have always been great to deal with. Dave.

Thomas, aka "Bazooka Brains" Higginson, a colourful character indeed. I first went to their shop in the mid 70s and it was a marvelous place. You scooped powder out of big barrels into paper bags or small containers like a powdered chocolate container, cardboard with a metal top and bottom. Stalls where you could use a scoop shovel to pick up bulk bullets, sold by the pound. memory lane..............

And a couple weeks ago I ordered a couple reloading items (dies and bullets), great price, fabulous customer service and super fast shipping. GREAT folks to deal with!

Great guys.
My dad and uncles had bought gear and powder from them . I have a couple old xelex cans. ( empty).
I still have a few card board boxes of powder with a purple stick on label, some never opened yet.
Also I have number of the old green chocolate milk powder containers and a couple brown ones with powder in them. It's still good.
Great guys when you need data on some powder that was bought decades ago.
Thanks for the great service.

That's the stuff!

I just wish they had more stock... not their fault... but their inventory has been bare for months... which is actually kinda scary as far as shortages go...
