Hello everyone,

recently decided to get into "long-range" shooting(it's in quotes cause I live in Toronto so long for me is 50-300 yards)

Decided to get a RPR 22LR cause
1. 22 LR is cheap
2. the RPR was on sale.
3. I didn't know any better

Anyways what scope would you recommend for this range? I had my eye on the Vortex Diamondback Tactical 6-24...when I called in and spoke with Vortex Canada they said the vortex strike eagle 5-25x56 is better suited. I know the glass is better on this(from what I've read) and there is a zero stop....but for someone just starting out does it make sense to almost double the price to get the eagle?

any feedback, recommendations are appreciated!

Thanks!

I picked up an Athlon ares btr gen 2 4.5-27x50 from mystic precision for my Ruger precision rimfire. I love it! Worth checking out. Multiple reticle options. Great glass. Awesome for the $

I have a a diamondback tactical on my .308 and she is true as a morning bird. The issue you will have with that optic is out beyond your current ranges, you will notice a blue glare. The strike eagle is higher quality glass but tbh, under 300yds unless you are poor of sight, you will still hit your mark. (300yds with .22lr is a long shot for any shooter with any rifle/optic)

Yeah I think the Strike Eagle, while good, is probably a bit more than I'd put on a 300 yard gun. I have the 4-24x version for a .280AI for 1000m shooting. I would probably stick with something in the Diamondback range unless you're going to stretch it out far enough that the glass would really make the difference between a hit and a miss. The above mentioned Athlon scopes are competitive as well in the same price bracket (skip the Neos line, Talos or Argos much better) as well as Burris (skip the Droptine) and Bushnell (skip the Prime).

I'd go with an Athlon. I'm reading alot of horror stories about Vortex lately.
Bancroft Fish and Game is still accepting new members. You have to take a course and have 3 supervised shoots. Approx 200$ yr. They're expanding range 2 out to 400m.

I put aq Strike Eagle on top of my Savage Mark 2, it works great.. Athlon would be the other main 'PRS scope' in the sub $1K range. Although Vortex just released the Venom (basically a Strike Eagle with less options) and shops are selling them for $699 right now.

I think Jerry at Mystic also mentioned the Athlon Helos has made some upgrades, stock is coming this June? Feel free to correct me Jerry!:)

Vortex has just released a new line thats an upgrade from the DIAMONDBACK but still at a great pricepoint for the features available.
