Just Nice Butts!

The MacNaughton butt with checquer freshly re-cut by Chris Dawe. Engraving of heel and toe is not dissimilar to the Woodward above.

A steel butt plate on this Army and Navy sidelock. Nothing special although is a bit of an anachronism. The gun was made in 1890 but steel plates were more common with muzzle loaders and very early breech loaders.

This isn't a butt, but it is an interesting grip cap from a bolt action rifle built by Martin Hagn. It was engraved by noted German engraver Heinz Funk who engraved many of Marten's earlier rifles. Sadly, Heinz passed a number of years ago.
