OK, You asked for it ... What are the most overrated RIFLE cartridges?

What they say: "6.5CM is magic, never seen before performance".
Reality: 260 Rem is essentially the same, with MOST MARGINAL differences relevant for reloading.

Decade ago: they were saying "260 rem is magic never seen before amazing performance"
Reality: 260 is essentially a worse version of 7mm-08 in a short action for all practical uses. 260 is also a worse version of 6.5x55 swede in a long action.

2 Decades ago: the "magic story" was all about short magnums. "Amazing performance in a short action"
Reality: Significantly worse barrel life, most inefficient usage of powder, more expensive all around than previous long action standard cartridges

3 Decades ago: "308 is magic military sniper tech, so many quality sniper factory ammo"
Reality: worse than any long action older generation for half an inch overall length on a 40+ inch rifle.

It is called deception. The industry has this cartridge cancer for a century. This is not a progress, this is hot air sold over and over again to each new generation of people coming into the sport. It is 2021! Buy our brand new 6.8 Westerner by Winchester, amazing performance!. Oh wait, it is 270 Win short magnum with tiny tiny tiny bit shorter brass. Amazing groundbreaking performance!

The manufacturers are in it to make money!....... that's the bottom line! Would you prefer they went broke. lol

I would prefer their made honest product at an honest price. Winchester pre and after 64 shows you how you go down the drain. Remington history shows you what happens to a company if you run it with modern "business methods". You can look at Marlin you can look at Mauser or Weatherby. The moment you start pulling bs our of your ass you get a spike in sales and profit.. for a short while. Then someone comes and takes you place. Remington can't even make a rifle competitive to Tikka anymore. All these big names - they are pathetic. Sig Sauer can't even launch a product without 2 recalls and a lawsuit. Bergara for crying out loud can just come over and totally push Rem 700 on quality and price. Do you see a lot of "3456 bergara short magnum ultra" new cartridges? No, because if you have an honest quality product you don't rely on bs to drive sales.

Now look at all the custom gunsmiths, look at the prices and people pay, why don't buy Savage Axis instead? You can machine rifle actions, just decent quality actions and sell them for the price of an offshelf rifle or two. And people are lining up to buy. Custom barrels - not cheap, people are lining up. Good quality iron sights - not enough stock. Quality stocks - $1k $2k and people are fine even with wait times.

If you have to rely on constant stream of "bs inventions" to keep a company a float, you are already commercially dead.

Own a 270? You are a victim of marketing hype.

Own any belted cartridge that doesn't require a belt? You are a victim of marketing hype.

Own anything Weatherby or RUM? You are a victim of marketing hype.

I could go on forever Laugh2

Some cartridges actually offer an improvement over similar cartridges, but they aren't important to everyone. The 6.5 Creed sure has had lots of hype but it does offer improvements over the 6.5x55 or .260 in some areas, but it is up to the individual to decide if these improvements matter to him. Same with the 375 Ruger over the 375 H&H. although the improvements of the Ruger are perhaps more visible and pronounced.

I'm not quite sure what you're attempting to say here.
Remington and Winchester lost market share and eventually went broke because they refused to innovate properly and adjust to the realities of American manufacturing. They tried to build an honest product at an honest price, and lost a lot of money.

And trying to compare anything to custom gunmakers is an odd choice. That is an incredibly niche market and the only reason you see wait lists is because the supply is so low.

There are many long essays on why the 6.5 Creed exists.
The ONLY reason 6.5CM exists is because Hornady had marketing budget to push in US. Remington could not do it with 260 Rem as it was going down, and Lapua was too far away with 6.5x47.

All this "magical" crap about 6.5CM is absolute nonsense. 6.5CM cannot compete with many existing hunting cartridges at long range with such a low energy and long range is the only area its slightly better ballistics would matter. Under 300 yards it has less power than 308 and 7-08 and the difference in ballistics is negligible.

For the pure target shooting, it is very mediocre and won't give you any advantage

It is same the performance as 260 rem was for any REASONABLE PURPOSE you might want to use it for. In fact for practical hunting 7-08 or 308 would be better at close ranges. And going further needs way too much energy you can't get out of 6.5CM. 260 Rem was a fad for 5-7 years and it didn't last. 6.5CM is essential the same fad with a bigger marketing budget and stronger push. If 6.5CM didn't exist - no one would notice.

Please produce a quote where even one person said the 6.5 creedmoor was “magic”

All it does is fit better in a 2.8” mag box.

If you don’t like marketing, don’t buy into it. Who cares.

Would you rather live in a commie state that doesn’t even allow firearms, much less a choice of what cartridge you use? (Sadly we’re on our way there)

For our grandfathers and dads Weatherby cartridges where the most overrated today it’s the 6.5 CM and the likes.

The fellas arguing against the 6.5 CM sound like a bunch of obtuse followers repeatedly stating what others have already said over and over.

Lame...
